I look up other new stories about how this could have possibly happened and they all say the same thing. The authorities are not talking. It's almost unbelievable, unless the shooter had a machine gun and the officers were all lined up.

I think it comes down to lack of training. Lack of funding can hit the department in the exact wrong place! Have you ever watched some of those LE reality shows? DH was LE for a long time, he will point out things they are doing (or not doing) that is just plain stupid safety issues. When even a civilian like me can say WTH?!? you know there is something wrong with the system.

One of the officers died early this morning.........

I agree Wendy. The city just got rid of a Mayor that was anything but friendly to LEO's. Cutting pay, training, equipment, the list goes on.

Not sure if this was a "SWAT" type raid, but they are in and of themselves very DANGEROUS and a foe well armed and decent in training, given some warning (sounds outside, barking dogs, etc...), could be a formidable force... Personally, I think SWAT raids are a BAD idea except for a few exceptions. Most situations would be better with a SIEGE than a RAID, and safer too for the Officers.

All it takes is the WRONG person to be raided... Bowman of Unintended Consequences comes to mind...

The Military has asserted numerous times over the years that the most difficult thing to stop is a well motivated and trained rifleman, LA Bank robbery comes to mind. I don't know what the details are, they will come out in the wash and we dont NEED to know everything right now either. One died giving his life to what he believed do not disrespect that by armchair quaterbacking unless youve been there done that and got the t-shirt then wore it out. Once the details are released rather than focus on LEO blame and why some politician didnt do this or that look at it open minded and LEARN and figure out what you will do when the SHTF on your day. Learn from the thug who did manage to fight it out and see what he did right. In almost all of my breach training in LEO and Military at least one team member was KIAd right then and right there because no amount of training can take away homefield advantage. In numerous real breaches I have been injured and I train my b... off, it happens. When you are in a fight expect to be punched, if you are in a knife fight expect to be cut and if you are in a gunfight expect to be shot. Either you or the armor catches it. I'm getting to old and to bad beat up to do it anymore but I got respect for those that picked it up so I could leave it.
