Bugging Out - Rant, Discussion and Fix

Mine is a prodrive with a 27 hp Kohler. Air cooled. Will run wide open in about a foot of water with a hard bottom. It will run in full mud as long as the mud is somewhat thin. I have a 1852 Gatortrax hull, .125 thick aluminum and it will run about 18 mph wide open. They now have a 36 horse motor that would probably do 26 mph wide open with a lot more weight. The speed does not increase much but the weight carrying ability increases greatly. It is amazing what they will go through. I have been over beaver dams at full throttle. I use it for duck hunting/fishing and getting to that hole that is inaccessible to a normal boat/motor combo. Here is a link to the motor www.prodriveoutboards.com.

Great thread Matt!
We will bug out if we absolutely have to due to the house not being structurally safe or some other reason we just have to leave, other wise it is better for us to stay. Our oldest child is medically fragile, in a wheelchair and requires a feeding tube that is run by a pump. We have a special needs stroller that we can use to bug out, and in a pinch we can still feed this child through the tube minus the pump, and take care of other needs, however, moving fast and quiet would be out of the question. With that said, you post offers lots of food for thought.
Thanks,
SC
P.S. Boltgun, I will be sending prayers your way."Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

We are still up in the air. My wife and I plan on staying put right now, although we are currently looking for a second piece of land that will be our "retreat". We plan on stashing some supplies at our second location, which has to have a well, while living on the 6 acres we are on right now year round. I agree, you have to be able to move, adapt and overcome. We have three children, so it makes things harder but we have to plan accordingly. I just hope we never have to execute any plans. Prayers boltgun.אני אעמוד עם ישו וישראל

Matt, if I were absolutely forced out of my place here (live at BOL, thankfully) and had to load up and hit the road, I have 2 trucks that could take quiet a bit of my "stuff." But, I would be leaving a trailer-truck load behind. Grrrrrrr! I can't stand to think about some scumbags getting my stuff! Ha! Floods, epidemics, etc., don't worry me at this location. Now I only worry about ice storms & tornadoes & the New Madrid Fault. A huge basement helps with everything but the New Madrid. All & all, I could bug out if I had to, but for right now I'm staying here on top of this mountain, isolated, fairly well prepped, like-minded folks all around, a long ways from any sized city, lots of land & cattle & 10 fish ponds & creek & woods & pastures & fences & 2 wells & deer & turkey & squirrels & coons & possums & garden, with another garden planned for in the spring. Yep, I've been blessed!

I care for an invalid mother and a husband with heart disease, so bugging out would be very difficult. But, if the Zombies are in the streets, I'll put both of them in the SUV and LEAVE. Why would you stay and face certain death rather than take action to save your life. I'm a realist. Currently I live in very secluded area and in certain circumstances I feel perfectly safe. However, there are situations in which leaving is the only solution. I recently read Day by Day Armageddon. It was written by an active navy officer and if I had to face what he had to face while bugging out, I'd never make it.
Protus, keep up the fight!

Thankfully we got the BOL last year, so we will be bugging out. Even if we hadn't been blessed with it bugging in would not be an option (Next county over is Chicago). Most of our preps are already moved but we still have stuff to take with us. If we have to go on foot we will have to leave a bunch behind. Barring an EMP scenario, we plan on bugging well before it gets too rough. Would rather listen to TEOTWAWKI than live through it.
As far as a secondary BOL, don't have one. If it comes to that I'll just have to play it by ear.

Great post... Failing to act is often worse than taking the wrong action. If you act and reliaze it is wrong you can correct and keep moving, if you wait until you know what to do you might be waiting forever. Buy the wrong type of Rice... Atleast you have some Rice and next time you buy you know. You pack up and head to the Hills but nothing happens... Well it was a nice camping trip and drill, I am sure you messed up something and can do better next time.Originally posted by Matt In Oklahoma View Postmake the call! Right, wrong or indifferent
My copper:
Once SHTF or TEOWAWKI happens then we really must be able to learn who we can trust and equally important is to make sure that trust worthly people know they can trust us.
Why, because 99.9% of us can not make it alone and you will need other poeple and other poeple will be more willing to help you, if you can help them.

That only looks to be a max of 200 meters (using power poles to count) give or take... No problem for a modern rifle and decent shooter. Just keep the muzzle well inside the room and if you can place a peice of screen between the muzzle and the opening to help hide you and reduce visible muzzle flash.Originally posted by protus View Postim staying here to help thin the zombie crowd for my homesteader compadre's :P
