  • Preps

I have not posted in a while, just been reading the other posts and gathering knowledge.
here are some of my current preps.
    weapons - 1 mossburg 12 ga w. 500 rounds of various loads
1 ruger 10/22 w. about 7,500 rounds, I took the bullets out of the current boxes and dumped the rounds in 2 30 cal. ammo boxes
we have 10 7gal. water containers filled i would like to get about 5 more to have about 3 weeks worth of h20 stored.
we went to the store the other day and bought canned food just for storage, I think we have around 2 weeks worth of food stored - this is a area that we have to improve on. I would like to get about 3 months of canned food stored before I start to work on LTS.
i have ammo cans in each vehicle with emergency items. flashlight, first aid, fire starting
I kinda got into the mode of buying equipment from gun shows because that is fun. but I have to start with the more basics such as food storage.
I just had to put $1500 in my BOV for a transmission, it is a army surplus CUCV that has given me some good experience in vehicle mechanics that I would have never tried with our newer vehicles.
I have a bug out vehicle but no where to bug out to. i am under the thought that we would stay in our house and not become a refugee unless we were desperate

I think that probably alot of us are in that position... We have a 4-wheel drive to get us "There", we just don't have a "There" to get to... :)
We live in the suburbs of a major Michigan city, so I think it would be a while until roving bands of looters made it here from the inner city, yet I certainly would prefer to be out in the country a bit.

The problem I see is if I just "Bugged Out" first thing, my BIGGEST asset (The house) would be totally trashed and vandalized by the time I came back! The only comforting feeling I have living here, is that many of my neighbors are friendly AND well-armed.... So I think we would all band together and protect our neighborhood, if need be. Of course, we'd probably also find out fast who among us failed to prep!

There is always an issue because no one "knows" what will happen anywhere. Most BOVs fall very short of what they can carry in the amount of supplies it takes to sustain people. "The 4WDTruck of Death" look is what everyone wants but what does it haul for 3-4 people? I forsee a whole lot of people being "There" in the BOVs with next to nothing after week one

This is what I see happening too. Bullets, beans and band-aids. That's what's important, especially when you're just starting out prepping. My wife and I concentrated on beans first, then band-aids, then bullets. We finally got around to where we got our BOV. It took awhile though.( 5 yrs. ) It's also only for a last resort, unless we have enough time to have a retreat location farther out in the country than we already are, or meet some others and join a group.

I fear the BOV may become stolen via gangbangers when your defenses are down and it becomes a rape and pillage vehicle from the days of Mad Max!!!

            Or am I just paranoid?

I think staying at home is the most sensable option, at least until you cant stay there any longer due to security issues or the lack of food or water drives you to move out. I think that if any collapse of the system ever takes place it will be a slow disentigration of our rights that MAY eventually lead to sporadic chaos that may become more and more common as people begin to realize they are bein taken advantage of. Of course a complete collapse of the system COULD take place but that scenario is highly unlikely short of a nuclear war or a high level EMP blast. Staying at home with family and the support of neighbors for security is the best option for me. That said, it doesn't hurt to make plans to bug out just in case.

My BOL is my home. Couple of years ago I sat down and thought about leaving and going somewhere else and came to the conclusion that it is just smarter to stay where I am at. The biggest factor of my decision is that I have 4 small children. With that being said now I can spend all my time and resources on my homestead. I guess I might be one of the lucky ones because I am already out in the country side I have trees all around me. I have a spring for water have a stocked pond. Protection and food taken care of. The one thing I lake is fencing I would like to put up barbed wire I have taken care of my driveway access made it so they can't come driving in. I realy don't see a mad max scenario but more of a slow death
