  • Thank You!

Last night I took my brother to the range for some "pratical" style shooting this is our second such trip in 2 weeks. On the way home from the range he paused in our conversation and said "Thank you for making me safer." See he has never really liked guns but always beleived the rights to have them. Recent events in his life has made him want to learn to use them. So I pushed for him to take CCH (in NC you can get a conceal handgun but not a knife or other weapon??) class and start hitting the range, he is a large guy with good hand eye... So just one mention of a firm grip/proper hold and pulling the trigger until it breaks and he was shooting very well for a beginer. So then I thought that we both need to start getting draw/movement/reloads down so I started looking to do some pratical shooting...

The more shooting we do and the more we realize we need to shoot more. And with that we have been pushing each other and I have been helping fund him to do more. And because of that push he feels safer.

I want to pass this "Thank You" on to you guys. Seeing your preps has help fuel my desire to do more. Your videos and guidance has help me actually start acheiving those goals. Those preps help me feel safer.

So "THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME SAFER"

Their is a guy in your area that trains for Suarez Int'l - JD Lester. I'd highly recommend taking a class with him to jumpstart your training.

Thank you. I have been looking at those Suarez International classes for the last couple of weeks. There are several that are within that 3 to 4 hour drive from us. I am Western NC right off of I-26 and I-40, so none of those are right here but many are within driving range. So the Haw River-NC, Columbia-SC, Chattanooga-TN, Knoxville-TN, and even Atlanta-GA are all with about 3 to 4 hour drive from us. That gives us lots of classes within the Suarez International classes to choose from.

Any one class more beneficial than the others?
I am looking at Defensive Pistol or Close Range Gunfighting or Combat Pistol Marksmanship ... Not sure which would be better?

Any one instructor better than the others?

Not to hijack the thread...... 1Admin do you know of any instructors in western WA. ? I'd love to move to the next level in my training but haven't found anyone that I feel is qualified up here. Input from anyone is appreciated.

Cool beans! Like Admin said, train when you can and thats a good starting place and they offer progressive classes as well as armorer courses etc. Suarez has some quality training. You will quickly learn the difference between the action shooting "game" and the real. Keep pushing and never be afraid to get outside of your comfort zone and try new stuff. Too many people allow their vanity, fear and lack of confidence to control them and it keeps them "in the box".

More than likely it would probably be most beneficial to start with the entry level pistol class, I believe that's the "Defensive Pistol" class.

A friend of mine is an instructor. He lives in Anniston, Al. and can do any class you need. He is current SF and has just returned CONUS. His name is Frank and his web site is www.wayofthegun.us.

If I may add, a lower priced alternative for getting the little ones involved is paintball.
There are a lot of hardcore paintball tournaments that train children about bounding overwatch, as well as basic moving under fire.

Yes it is NOT the same as the "real" training, but it IS better than nothing and most "real" training won't allow children to run around with a live gun, but paintball, man paintball is FUN!!!

Best paintball experience: flanked my company commander (he was on blue team, I was on red team) and splatted him from behind two shots to the back. Man was he ever pissed.

                Well, just food for thought.
