  • Buying from a restraunt supply company

Any of you guys tried buying in bulk from a restraunt supply company? We have a Wood Fruiticher close to us. I looked on their website and they have bulk salt, spices, beans, powdered milk, etc. Stuff that you can't buy in bulk at Sam's. I filled out a new customer request form. Thought it might be worth a shot.

I buy my butchering knives from ACE Restaraunt Supply. Along with bulk containers when they have them on sale.
But be careful they are way overpriced for some items. Example the chromed storage shelves over $500, exact same ones at Lowes for $150.
    So just shop around.

Yeah, way out west we have Cash and Carry No membership; No fees. We save a lot. We have a nice cool, dry pantry, so for example, we get potatoes in 20# sack (instead of 5# sack @ the cult grocer). No need to pay $1.5/# for apples when I can get a 5# bag for 2.49! Yup, #10 cans of this, 25# bags of that...

Do you have to have a tax exempt number, business license, or something to buy from them ? or can Joe Blow from off the street come in and purchase? There are several of theses large warehouse food suppliers in the industrial park sections by where I work, including a winn dixie warehouse and coke warehouse distributer as well, been meaning to ask them about barrels.

@RobertJ anybody can come off the street and buy from them. They will ask you at checkout if you have a tax exempt, just say no. :)

Now distribution centers are something totally different.

I sell some stuff at some Farmers markets so I keep a farm checking account and business name. The bank account is just a personal account with the checks in business Farm name. Do a quick letter head on the computer and send to the business asking about setting up an account. They will send you credit applacations but don't bother filling out. Now a couple weeks later stop by interduce yourself and ussually you are in since they have you on file. I have done this for several companies and haven't had any trouble other than them wanting you to fill out there credit application. I have had to tell several I don't do credit accounts so why fill those out. First time you puchase make sure you have enough cash on hand because I have had them tell me with know credit application no checks. And one other thing start your checks with number 6500 or something like that alot of companies dont like to see low number checks from company's.
