    ive been saving pre 82 pennies for several years,im glad to see that if they stop making pennys,that melting will be legal!!
    I HAD RATHER HAVE 12 HONEST PEOPLE JUDGING ME,AS TO HAVE 6 CARRYING ME...

      Isnt this one of those "suicide is illegal" laws?
      I mean seriously, if you melt down a penny, who the hell is going to know you melted it down?
      Or do you think the gubmint has enough time and money to do a metallurgy test on all current sales of copper bars?

        the government dosen't have to chase you down, most salvage yards where I live take your name and address when you bring in copper as so many homes are being robbed for copper, so you bring in say a couple hundred pounds of copper, a cop will be around in a couple weeks to see where you got the copper.

          I've been saving it up from copper pipes I find in dumpsters at worksites for the last 40 years... Prove me wrong...
