  • Book recommendation request

I have a little birthday money and instructions to spend it on me. I was thinking I might like a book to read over Christmas break. The only "survival" type book I have read is "One Second After."

    What book would you recommend?

    Thanks!

Matthew Bracken -Enemies Series, Castigo Cay
    Stephen Merlo - Orens War
John Birmingham -Without Warning and After America

Non Fiction or a resemblance of
    Bible your choice of version
    SunZu -The Art of War
Military-Hand to Hand Combatives, Simple Field Sabatoge, Survival Manual
Mary Swartz Rose - Everyday Foods in War

Post apocalyptic genre- I'd say Lights Out or Patriots.

Sci Fi genre- I'd say The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlen

Distopia genre- We by Yevgeny Zamiatin

      Pertinent non-fiction-
The Hologram of Liberty By Kenneth Royce
      No Treason by Lysander Spooner
Resistance to Tyranny: A Primer by Joseph P Martino

I'd say Jakarta Pandemic. Pretty good story. The main guy is a little naive and keeps making the same mistakes time and time again (finding out that somebody is coming to the house only when they ring the door bell for one) but the medical ideas are on the point.

I just finished "When all hell breaks loose" by Cody Lundin

I was really surprised by all the great practical survival information

Lights Out and Patriots are almost mandatory reading. I'm currently reading the Restoration Series (4 books) by Terri Blackstock. I followed JDY to this forum, and have read just about everything he has written. He has a cd with his stories on it in .pdf format. I bought 2 of them :)

Another vote for JWR How to Survive TEOTWAWKI, 98.6 Cody Lundin and for fiction Alas Babylon by Pat Frank (oldie but a goodie)

Check out the recommended library by ThePatriotNurse www.ThePatriotNurse.com She has several good youTube vids as well, but her own website is new.

                    Enjoy!

I agree "Lights Out", "Patriots", and "Alas Babylon" are all good TEOTWAWKI fiction. There lots of books mentioned I have yet to read so I am off to check them out. One that I have not seen mentioned is "Molon Labe!" by Boston T. Party. I read most of it, it was interesting. I just need to finish it.

                      Have fun choosing a book.

Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle is one of the very best survival novels ever written. It was written in the 70's and the only thing that doesn't apply today is the lack of cell phones and the names of the TV shows.

                          This is an excellent work.

+1 on Molon Labe. That's on my list too.

                            Lucifer's Hammer is too.

I have a copy of it on my nightstand. I have "tried" to read it more than once. I just can't get into it.
