Good read all in all, generalizations aside...

I like the end quote... "Do you see what we are up against? Can you imagine 300 million of those?" LOL!

Hmm. Taking into account the source, this came across as a smidgen more balanced than I would have expected. That is, of course, not to say that it was actually balanced...

I think this clearly indicates the intellectual/cultural divide between the liberal progressives and traditional conservatives. The reporter clearly sees no reason for citiizens to be alarmed by their gov't, much less do anything about it. He lightly mocks the whole thing, as some kind of fantasy escapism. Unfortunately, there are many out there on the fringes, who get into full auto, cans, drugs. etc. and make easy targets for the fed-goons. They also make it that much easier to portray us all as looneys at best, criminals at worst.

The main thing you need to take away from all this is that both camps are operating on diametrically opposing world-views. Neither side will convince the other of the right-ness of their cause. The liberal will not even admit that anything is wrong, much less that you have any right to fix it. In his view, everything is as it should be, and should keep moving towards his socialist utopian dream. The conservative is alarmed by what he sees is as a constant erosion of his freedoms and the dismantling of the republic, as our founding fathers intended. In his view we are rapidly moving towards the danger of a break-down in society, either by an economic collapse and/or civil war.
