  • What's going on with diesel prices?

Used to be diesel was always cheaper than regular gas. Then we had a supply crisis and price run ups a couple years ago, regular got over $4 a gallon. After that diesel cost more than regular gas, usually 8-10% more. After the latest runup in prices when regular got near $4 a gallon again, regular gas prices came down but diesel didn't.

Was driving by a Quiktrip gas station and the diesel prices gave me a shock compared to regular gas - excuse the fuzzy pic I took it as I drove past. Regular gas was $3.24 and diesel was $3.89!!!

Diesel now 20% higher than regular gas. What's going on?

Another thing I've noticed since gas went over $4 a gallon - regular, mid, and premium used to be priced $0.10 apart. Now they are $0.15 apart. In someplaces more than that. Price manipulation in action?

I've wondered the same thing, used to be that diesel was cheaper, but not in the last couple of years. Up here in WA, regular sells for $3.65/gal. diesel is right around $4.00/gal.

I'd bet the reason is very simple-- because they can. Diesel rigs get better mileage which translates into less usage, therefore they need to charge more to get the same profit levels.

I've got an old mercedes diesel I might have to convert to run on veggie oil if this keeps up! I bet these prices are really hurting the trucking industry.

Anybody know why the very recent spread from 10% over gas to 20% or more? This happened in the last month or two.

My company has raised our delivery costs twice this year due to Diesel prices. There are 9 vehicles in our fleet. we are a small company (Mom N Pop if you will) The prices are just added onto the shipping costs which is added to purchase price. we went from a 8 dollar delivery charge 8 years ago to 17 dollars now, we are talking about raising it to 19 dollars by the end of the year.
I have no clue what caused this spike, maybe the build up of troops in china and us building up in australia????
Saber ratteling by Iran again??? dunno????
