I can;t say it enough, THANK YOU to my fellow vetrans. They don't call it in the 'service' for no reason.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

              Good "home training" creates patriots.

I was standing in the check out line in WalMart this afternoon behind a woman with her daughter, who looked about five years old. At the next register were two, very tall soldiers in uniform also checking out. I watched the little girl observe the soldiers and, with no prompting from her mother, she walked over to the soldiers. They were busy loading their items. She started patting one of the soldier's knees until she got his attention. She looked WAY UP and clearly said to him, "Thank you." He got on one knee and said, "You're very welcome." The little girl returned to her mother.

The cashier on my aisle said she got "chill bumps" just seeing that encounter. I felt like crying with happiness-----happiness that there IS hope for the future. As long as parents raise their children with pride in our country, a grateful understanding of the sacrifices of our soldiers, and knowledge of right and wrong, we have reason to hope for better times.

On the way out of the store, I stopped the mother and told her, "Thank you for raising your daughter right." She replied with a smile, "Thank you so much for telling me that."

So today I would like to say a huge "Thank You" to all veterans for their strength and sacrifice. Without the efforts of the men and women in our military, we would surely be lost.

I would also like to say "Thank You" to all the parents out there who take the time to provide good "home training" to their children. This is how patriots are created and nations are strengthened.

I was raised in the aftermath of WWII, and taught the lessons of duty, honor and country.
As a boy I wanted to be a war hero and tell war stories. So, when the time came, I volunteered for the Army, and later volunteered for Vietnam. The Army awarded me a couple of medals, but I ain't no hero, just a survivor. The heros names are listed on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington.
I'm nothing special, just a regular guy, but I do feel very humble and my eyes get moist when my fellow Americans thank me for my service.
I would do it over again, even knowing the outcome.
                      Thank you to everyone.

And I learned from those like yourself from the Vietnam era who trained and molded me and kept me alive. I was taught to honor and uphold values despite what people think or believe and to be true to who I was no matter. For this you are heroic to me.
I am undeserving of the thanks of Americans and like RPD feel that I just did what I was supposed to and got to come home. I struggle to find words when I am thanked but I do thank those who followed me and allowed me to retire and enjoy. These 2 holidays are tough.
