  • "The Secure Home" review

Just got this book last night and already I am reading a lot of what LD3 & Protus talk about in regards to mental exercises and such. Also with regards to skill building. As an example you could win the lotto and throw a lot of money towards your preps and retreat but if you don't know how to maintain/repair the equipment you will be up a creek w/o a paddle!!

I will do a review after each chapter.

Skousen is one of the best survival authors out there, if not THE best, IMO.

He's the only other one I've seen touch on some of the more critical topics that aren't things you can "buy your way out of."

It's a great book and highly recommended. People think it's only useful if building/remodeling a house, IT'S NOT! You'll refer to it at lot then also, but it's got tons of other useful info in it.

Chapter 1 - Covered topics that you can't buy your way out of. Changing your lifestyle, lose the weight, eat healthier, develop discipline, how to be an effective leader. Some of the things that 1Admin/LD3 has talked about in the threads and on the podcast.

He gives some temporary and permanent lifestyle change suggestions, talks about physical conditioning (store what you eat and eat what you store...where have I heard that??? as well as exercise), transition to natural remedies, family leadership, raising kids and discipline.

Ch. 2 -- He gives some suggested security scenarios to develop a plan for and to practice (armed intrustion, sexual assault, kidnapping etc.) He goes in to some detail of each of the ones that he lists and gave me some food for thought. Definitely some things that our wives/children should think about and we need to help them train for these possible scenarios.
