  • State's Rights

I, and the lady, helped at the Grass Roots North Carolina booth at the local gun show a few weeks back.

As I talked with many attendees an oft repeated comment I heard was : "I don't care what happens in NC, it what happens in DC that is important. I only support the NRA."

My reply: "Maybe you want to ask the gun owning residents of Illinois if they would agree with you."

Grass Roots North Carolina is the gun rights organization in North Carolina.

Groups with a national focus, like the NRA, realistically rely on local/state groups like GRNC to do the leg work and then the nationals decide if they want to put their name behind something or not.

Get involved with and support your state group.

For those in NC, check out: Grass Roots North Carolina

GRNC is an all volunteer organization (even the lawyers) that is largely responsible for passage of a recent bill that includes a Castle Doctrine that will go in to effect on 12/01/11. This is a HUGE victory in NC.

You can sign up for email alerts, membership is not required, and they are action alerts, there are no constant pleas for money like many other organizations.

yeah Illinois laws are horrible...we can't even get a pilot of CCW in some medium sized cities. I wish we could annex Chicago to Canada so that we could get CCW and rid of the entitlement shackle of Chicago.

Here in Va we have the Virginia Civil Defense League they do amazing work http://vcdl.org/ I care more about state rights , it is a whole lot easier to fight something on the state level over the national level , Im all ways emailing and attending events with my state reps even the ones I dont agree with just to see what they are up too.

I agree snare. The stronger your local support is for gun rights, the better we will all be at the federal level.

I wholly agree with supporting states rights as they are close to home and easier to influence.

The only problem is they are so easily over ridden by the feds. All they have to do is threaten to pull federal funding and the state will fold like a cheap umbrella. With the crooked antics the feds are getting away with every day I’m more worried about them at the moment.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The state is most important... At least it was and I believe that out founding fathers wanted it that way. They wanted strong independant states, and then a weaker Centeral Government that was to make it easier for interstate commerice, travel and a means to work out legal recourse.

              "Who is GRNC?

GRNC is you. As a volunteer organization, Grass Roots North Carolina is exactly what the name implies: A collection of volunteers from a broad array of backgrounds who share a common interest in defending individual liberties guaranteed by the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.

GRNC remains – very deliberately – an all-volunteer organization. Frankly, doing so scares the daylights out of politicians. Why? Because you, not highly paid lobbyists, form the backbone of the organization. And because you are in it to defend your rights instead of for money, you can’t be bought."

GRNC has redesigned their website. Much more user friendly now.

If you want the best gun rights check out Arizona. We dont need a CCW to carry concealed. I was born in Arizona and will die in Arizona but in the mean time I love this state

                      Great ! Thanks !

By the way, HB650 went into effect today.

So North Carolinians now have a quality Castle Doctrine and no longer have the legal requirement to retreat (even when in your own home), concealed permit issuance is now improved, legal protection for collectors of fully automatic firearms and concealed carry in parks and game lands (prior to today, it was illegal to carry concealed on most National Forest land in NC as most of it is designated game land).

The elections of November 2010 were paramount. For 112 years straight, anti-gun rights politicians controlled the NC General Assembly.....yes, you read that right, for 112 years straight. Well, in 2010 that changed and I am glad a group like GRNC existed and took action. I am glad we took action.

Yet, we still have far to go. Now is NOT the time to rest on our laurels. It never really is.
