  • Looking for info on buying gold

As part of my preps I've been working on a reasonable amount of PM's.

I have reached my goal on silver, mostly in pre-'64 U.S. dime, quarters, half dollars, and dollars.
So now I'm looking to buy some gold, not a lot, I certainly can't lay out the cash for an ounce at a time. I was thinking of buying 1/10th oz. per month to build my pm supply. I'm at a loss on how to do it though. Can anyone school me here? Can you buy 1/10th oz. coins or some form of bullion?

:D I'm a novice in the PM world so try to use small words :D. Thanks all!

You can buy 1/10th ounce coins but you'll pay a premium over the per ounce cost.

I get mine at a local coin dealer that I've built a rapport with.

I've found the best method for acquiring smaller amounts of gold is by using pliers to repossess teeth from welfare recipients, LOL. I think Benn Gleck got it. Sorry I don't have a response that is actually helpful.

APMEX - American Precious Metal Exchange is excellent. I've used them several times without incident. I'm very pleased with my purchases.

If I had money to buy gold, I'd buy more rice.beans ect plus more silver. Gold is for very rich people who think there may be a recovery in 20 yrs and they'll make a land grab

Like any other currency, there are many denominations. I see gold as a large denomination bill like a $100 dollar bill, compared to silver coins which will fill the smaller denomination niche. Think of it as paying for a car with $1 bills vs. $100 bills.

Rice and beans? You mean people are storing food and such? Why wasn't I informed about this?!?!?!

Seriously... I have a plan and a budget for my preps that includes all sorts of things including PM's. The 3 B's were the first thing I concentrated on (and they are still being stored monthly) but I have reached a point where other things on the list are being worked on.

Thanks for the info everyone; I located a small coin shop one town over that has 1/10th oz. coins available. Zoinks! His original price was definitely a premium over spot, just like you mentioned Benn Gleck. A long conversation and realizing that we had some common friends got him to come down to a more reasonable price. Networking and mutual acquaintances are a big plus in the bartering world.

              Many thanks!

You may want to be able to use smaller amounts of gold to barter than 1/10th ounce. Also consider 22kt gold chains they use in jewelry. You can snip a link or two as you need it for barter...
