Day after Helloween you can usually find lightsticks (commercial) cheap at Walmart.
Usually it's 50% off right after helloween. Buy a few then, then wait a couple days (if stock is good on them) and check again. Often times 2-4 days later that stuff goes down to 25% of original price. Then buy all that you need.
Ditto with stuff like AA battery powered pagan tree lights after Christmas. These make a cheap, affordable way to practice night shooting in the field. The lightsticks do as well but are obviously more of a one use deal. The tree lights are awful bright and you'll find that you have to duct tape over some of them or it's TOO illuminated. But that gives you options once one light gets clipped. Pull the tape off the next one and readjust the string of lights. At sometimes $.75 a string of lights on clearance, it's sometimes more cost effective than using Cyalume sticks for night shooting.
Course you could use them for backup lighting also :) I mean the tree lights and the lightsticks.
Depending on your AO, canning jars, lids, etc. might be on clearance also.
When you find truly marked down stuff is when you "buy it cheap and stack it deep." You might think 100 lightsticks is a lot, but when you get using them and figure out 50 million uses for them, it won't be much.
