No Freedom Of Farm To Fork

Thanks for the article Snare. I continue to see these type of things happening, but regardless of the growing trend to trample all over honest people, this is still so absolutely terrifying to me! I keep entertaining ideas about starting an aquaponics farm... But this type of thing makes me think twice. Mark my words, farmers markets are going to start getting a lot more restrictions slapped on em'.
Are people incapable of judging for themselves what the should consume? Can't I as a "Free" person living in "Free Democratic" society choose for myself what I wish to eat? Oh, that's right... Democracies aren't free societies! I forgot.

Snare thanks for sharing...
If we are not even allowed to choose what we want to eat what freedoms do we really have?
The FDA (and many parts of goverment) have a revolving door with "Special Intrest". If we would look at companies like Monsanto and their on going relationship with the "Public Servants" it should scare the "poop" out of us.
How can you "Patent" a plant that grows? Is that not mother nature? I mean if I tried to "patent" a pine tree then I could control all the pine trees in the world... THat would be worth a lot of money??? Then think if I did that with corn/potateos/wheat you know the majority of the food source in the modern world what would that be worth? Ask Monsanto and thier holdings or their share holders!
FYI go to Youtube search "Future of Food" and watch what Monsanto has done and is doing.Last edited by Not_Yet_Prepped; 10-31-2011, 02:36 PM.

Yep, that is corporatism at it's finest.
And check out Food Inc.:
And King Corn:
And I think yall might find Karen DeCoster's blog interesting, she focuses on the hand of government in all food issues. Keep an eye on it. she is an excellent writer and does a great job with the blog. http://karendecoster.com/

I can not really blame Big Business though... The real problem (as far as I see) is we the people are lazy. If we the people would hold our government and our "Public Servants" accountable for their responsibilities but at the same time keep them over stepping their bounds we would not have these sorts of problems. The legislation that is allowing this stuff to happen is actually stepping on our rights and could easily be over turned with enough out cry.
But to do that we must keep our shelves informed and actively take responsiblity for our lives. This takes alot of time and effort but to many would rather just go home and watch the football game and fight over who has the best quarterback...

The United States of America is a Republic not a Democratic state. There is a difference, however, we are being treated like we live in a Democratic state.Originally posted by Edgemont View PostI keep entertaining ideas about starting an aquaponics farm... I too want to grow more of my own food, I won't let the gubmint stop me, my thought is to trade/barter my produce for things I need. Don't let FEAR stop you. Stand for what you believe to be your right to build an aquaponics farm. How hard will it be for them to police every side of the road truck with fresh produce in the back of it? They don't have enough health inspectors. What about every small town square? There are more of us small growers that there are "Health Agents", there are still free thinking individuals even in the employ of the gubmint."It's a trap!!!!" -- Admiral Ackbar

No offense elite, but we DID live in a republic (past tense). The unconstitutional "patriot" act violates the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th amendment (in my opinion). It is not a republic when the patriot act is on he books. How can this country be called a republic (inalienable rights) when obvious natural rights, like eating whatever I wish to, are denied? Shoot, we don't even live in a democracy!!! IMO.
The implications are frightening when considering our ability to try to prepare and ultimately, to survive. I do however agree with not letting fear stop me/us. But thedreamers is right, there are countless good intentioned goons that WILL turn us in for having a non-sanctioned piece of bread!
I'm interested in your opinion.Last edited by Edgemont; 11-01-2011, 11:17 PM.

No offense taken. I agree with you that we don't even have a democracy. I was just making the point that this country was founded as a Republic, most people don't know that or have forgotten it, I didn't fully grasp it until a few years ago. Yes there are good intentioned goobers out there. Thats why so many Self-sufficient people move out to the country less prying eyes to make an "honest call". We also have a duty to educate people on what our rights are and that we ALL are quite capable of deciding what food we want to eat and don't need a nurse maid to tell us what we can and cannot eat.Originally posted by Edgemont View PostNo offense elite, but we DID live in a republic (past tense).

I am not even going to touch the patriot act... we all know its a sham...so we need to tell our Senators and Non-Representing Representatives to veto it.
That's opinion for what its worth, always heard that they are like ********s everyone has one and they all stink .... LOL Goodnight folks I'll be here all week :)

Lol. I completely agree! I didn't even know what a republic was until a few years ago! I remember taking hunters safety 10 years ago and the instructor told us that owning a gun was "privilege" I'll never forget that... I kinda knew that that wasn't correct but wasn't sure. REAL education vs. Indoctrination. The difference is huge. I think that I speak for most here when I say that I just want to live in peace and live according to whatever I deam right (so long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else) Freedom I think is what it's called.

When "we" went into Afghanistan and Iraq... The "Officials" kept telling us that the end goal was to set up a Democracy in those countries. I always wondered why no reporter took pause at such comments (Ok some said it was to really get OIL but) none asked why a Democracy and not a "Republic"?Originally posted by elittle View PostI was just making the point that this country was founded as a Republic, most people don't know that or have forgotten it, I didn't fully grasp it until a few years ago. Ummm not sure why you say "how can you patent a living thing" there are 100s of patented hybrid crops throughout the US. Hybrid corns having the most patents I believe. I think you may not know that some patents are designed only for short term so the inventor/manufacturer can reclaim some of the moneys they put into the research (medications are the same way-example Lipitor is going generic this month I believe-that is the government is lifting the current patent on that and the manufacturer/designer will have to allow others to reproduce it freely) But, if we did not have these patents, who the heck is going to invest MILLIONS into research just so Joe Smo can steal it the moment it goes public? So patents, DO have a good use... :)

I know there are thousands of patented crops but the question was more of "WHY did the government allow a patent of a Crop?"Originally posted by Klayton View Postnot sure why you say "how can you patent a living thing"

Sorry but I dont want my food to grow its own pesticide...
If it kills bugs what do you think it is doing to your insides (however slowly it works it is still there). That stuff Bioacculates and the long term damage is not really known but I would think it is very very bad for us. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioaccumulation
I want good OLD SCHOOL food... The stuff we ate when cancer (and so many other problems) was so abscure that most had not even heard about them.
Klayton go watch "Future of Food" and see what those patents are doing its not only about research its about choice, knowledge of what is in my food.
Many crops that have been around for thousands years and now are "patented"... No research other than going to patent office.
Many of the GMO crops that have been patended are "Invasive" and people are getting sued for growing crops they have always grown but now the GMO has invaded the seed and taken over.
Crops should not be patented! Again go watch 'Future of Food' then use that as a starting point for your own research, it should be clear just how bad this is... Not so much a problem at the moment but in a few decades when most of the farmers have all but lost all of the orginial seeds then the large "Manufacturers" of these seeds could hold us hostage over prices (or what ever they want).Last edited by Not_Yet_Prepped; 11-07-2011, 01:41 PM.

I hope you did not misunderstand me, I am not for hybrid crops at all. I was just pointing out why we have patents on certain things. It is why Microsoft has a major office in China but makes LESS money in China then they do in Japan. Why? Because CHINA has no patent laws and as soon as ANYTHING comes out of that Microsoft office, it is HACKED-BROKEN DOWN-DUPLICATED and sold as Micrasoft.
Still boggles the hell out of me why they haven't closed that branch down yet. But the fact of the matter is research costs money, usually BIG MONEY.
Its just like those protesters on Wall Street, complaining about capitalism and wall street, as they sit in their North Face tents, (illegally using) Honda generators, using their iPhones and iPads, and recording everything on a Sony digital camcorder. Yes all not just great but AWESOME products brought to you through CAPITALISM!!
