Over the last several weeks we have had a number of rolling blackouts in our area. A couple of days ago my family happened to be eating together in a local taco place when the power went out. It was not quite dark yet but inside the area became dark and very quiet. The thing that amazed me was that the small kids in the place went crazy after about 3 minutes. Crying and sobbing the kids were begging Mommy to make them turn the lights, tv and stuff back on. They were terrified to the point that the parents had to take the kids out of the place. this was two families and four kids.
What really got me was what will happen if the lights go out and do not come back on for families like this? Are most of the kids today totally unprepared for any loss of modern conveniences? The parents were about as shook up as the kids. the power was out for about half an hour before it came back on.
One guy next to us said he was not going home because he did not have a flashlight and at least here he could see by the emergency lights. that spoke volumes about where most of the people where we live go to be prepared.
