The group surrounded the 21-year-old woman's car and began beating on it with an object that shattered her driver's side window. One of the boys involved in the attack also pointed a handgun in the direction of a passenger in the car, but didn't make any threats or attempt to open the door."

Why is pointing a handgun in the direction of the passenger not a "threat?"

Gradualism folks, wonder what it felt like in Rhodesia in the late 70's....

Kind of ironic it happened in a state that doesn't let its citizens carry........

My wife always says that I am just waiting on something like this to happen when we are in Atlanta eating or shopping...because I will start tallying points either in the truck or with the "Guy"....I will turn it into a Fantasy Kick Arse League
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

      geh,
You musta just picked this up from Drudge, I saw and read it there too.
disturbing, disgusting, and yet, I am sure that this gun wasn't a threat.
That gun was probably illegal, and illegal guns can't hurt people.
That's why it wasn't a threat you see...
      Gradualism indeed!
My usual route to work takes me through 'interesting' sections of town, and work itself is in a semi-interesting part of town.
Went my tertiary alternate route home last nite (don't like being seen at the same place at the same time all the time), and it was blocked off due to 'road work'! fortunately this route has several choices handy to me, so it didn't impact drive time.

I would think surrounding the car and breaking the woindow would be a threat even without the gun pointing. I'm glad I live where a reasonable fear for ones life or safety is enough justification. The article treats is as it's just kids out having fun.

I would have to say... A gun pointed at me or my passenger is a threat of taking a life, "My grandfather always said dont point at something unless you intend to kill/destroy it." As such I would consider that "kid" trying to kill anything/anyone that gun was pointed at. I guess I would be wrong but I dont deal well with "threats"...

You make the threat you better be able to deal with the response.

Even pellet guns and airsoft guns can kill.

I'm guessing running some feet over and/or knocking a few out of the way with the car might not even get reported due to the circumstances.

                Lawyer-

"So let me get this straight Mr. "Baby Boo", you and 27 of your friends were banging on the hood of the defendant's car, broke the window, pointed a gun at her and then you got pi$$ed cause she ran over your foot?"
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Let's see... they started by just surrounding the car and yelling, then progressed to actually hitting the car with an object. I know, they're not escalating, they're just having fun at some innocent person's expense. How the blank does pointing a gun at someone not constitute a threat????? Someone points a gun at me, they'd better be pulling the trigger at the same time. I will perceive that as a threat every time. The really sad part is that if the person in the car had stomped the gas and run over a couple of them, they would be hammered in the press for doing it, no matter how scared they were. The kid's mommas would be out in force, blaming the driver for hurting their little darlings. It's just sad. They do it because they can, and if they don't get the reaction they're after, it's going to get worse until they do.

I take so many different routes home, that when my wife and I were dating she thought I was trying to confuse her so she couldn't find my house. I've been reading article after article were groups have been atacking random people. I'm patiently waiting for my turn to play plug the thug. Sad to say but it's gonna take someone shooting these kids before it gets the attention it deserves.

The breaking of glass poses an imminent threat to you and to your passenger. A gun being pointed by one them is really over the top. At that point they have signed their death warrant around here. Are as they say they are DRT (Dead Right There). You shoot to stop the threat to you and to your passenger. You shoot to stop the assault by the gang members upon you and your property. You are in fear for your life. You have no choice but to stop the threat with whatever means necessary. Now in Chicagoland you are in a foreign country and these are just the friendly natives who are welcoming you to their neighborhood. Punks make me SICK. they have to be dealt with in very harsh and brutal ways.

I am amazed at how so many people lack a sense of self preservation. I have no doubt I would have ran over some feet and anything else attached to those feet!

Sure it would. The driver would be arrested and charged.
