Intersection Escape Routes #2

Ok in this one we will discuss the middle lane. If you find yourself here and something happens where you must absolutley get out, say a road rage firefight directly behind you, you will need an escape approach line of thinking. To my left is a bus which is much heavier and an object I can not push thru quickly. To my right a little space and an SUV. Directly in front a smaller vehicle. I show the method to moving this vehicle out of your way and the direction to punch through.
Also notice the space between vehicles discussed last time which will be required for you to manuver to properly place your vehicle in the correct position.
Now for the million dollar question. Does this get you to safety or place you (and the guy you are now responsible for pushing in front of you) in even more danger from oblivious traffic going through the intersection. Every move comes with risk and there may or may not be a right answer. Deep thought and caculated risks are required and an acceptance of those risks no matter the ending.

yes lighter vehicle would be my target too, as for other corner, no I would go the way Matt marked, buses tend to rub off my paint on my truck ;)

Also, driver needs to stay UP and pay attention, passengers can drop down during the maneuver = bus is on my side = no thank you...

A habit I learned when I rode motorcycles is to always pick an outside lane and leave space between the vehicle in front of me and myself . I use the same habit on all my vehicles now . If something were to go bad , I hear tires screeching , an altercation of any sort , I have the space needed to get around those vehicles . This habit has rubbed off on my wife also . She used to get mad when I would "nag" her about riding the vehicle's *** in front of us when sitting . She learned to either keep the distance or hand me to keys to not have to listen , but it seems to have paid off now .

in other words, there are others trying to get out to protect their families, but you would run over,ram,hurt,even kill them to get yourself out,even cause an accident that could cause a traffic jam so no one would get out. that should be a good road to not be on if there are a few hundred other drivers with thre same ideas.

If they are trying to get out of the way they wont be there to do anything to. Yes, bottom line I go home. Last year during the tornados I watched several vehicles stop and freeze in the danger zone. Several familes, the whole family, were killed because they either stopped and froze or panicked and drove into it. If you can live with sitting there and allowing you or your family to be killed during a crisis then thats your call. This is desinged to make you think. I can't answer for you nor will I attempt to. There are multiple options to this so tell me what yours would be if you needed to rapidly leave this situation pictured?

i would consider turning with the intersection traffic to minimize crash risks, i always leave maneuvering room between me and the car ahead, moving OR stationary, but then again have had crash avoidance training. ( last thing i had to duck was 3 deer running into the road, and i was astounded at how quickly i reacted....the avoiding was all done before it even registered what I was ducking!) seriously folks, you can turn quicker than you can brake to avoid things.
