Nearly Half Now Say Government Poses Immediate Threat

Americans' sense that the federal government poses an immediate threat to individuals' rights and freedoms is also at a new high, 49%, since Gallup began asking the question using this wording in 2003. This view is much more pronounced among Republicans (61%) and independents (57%) than among Democrats (28%), although when George W. Bush was president, Democrats and independents were more likely than Republicans to view government as a threat.

That "survey" is not correct. If they did one for real, I'll be the results would be a lot higher for "yes"

The rumor is already out that they will *fix* the primary to ensure that Herman Cain wins primary so it will be a black republican vs a half black democrat in 2012. Sad that our nation has come to this sort of politics, using race cards to win elections...

Got my passport current and ready, just in case Hussein wins again, it will be an opening of flood gates, as he will have nothing to lose from going full out liberal and anti-capitalist...

I know this sounds ODD, but I would had to either one of two places, Mexico (really odd I know) or Africa (even weirder right). Why, well Africa one that knows how to farm and actually work with the land can and will prosper, Mexico, since they dont check you as you go INTO Mexico, I would be able to take more of my "stuff" with me. Wife is Mexican so I would heavily rely on her ability to communicate, and I would be the silent hard farm working husband (so not much would change, LOL). :)

Even if half of the public felt that way, they will not act on it, when they really realize how much they are subservient and how much they depend on the government, they will not act on it. They (the majority) will not act, so it will be up to the minority, but if the government can control it long enough they will not have to worry, it is boiling water and frog thing, but it also comes down to that poem about when they came for me, there was no one left to fight them, type thing.
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Now i'm non of the above, but fill in the blank for you and you get the idea

We'll see how many really feel this way come election day. Freedom is too general of a term for most people now a days. After all, just listen to these folks. They think they have a "right" to a living wage, whatever that is. They have a "right" to an education. A "right" to a good job. A "right" not to be offended by anyone, but simultaneously, a "right" to say whatever they want. That is what freedom means to most people now a days. How many people to you hear saying they want to be free to make their own arrangements for retirement, along with the freedom to make the wrong choices, and screw that up, and have to work longer than expected? How many people do you hear saying they want the freedom to be able to arrange for their own medical care? What about the freedom to suffer the consequences of their actions and decisions, and to be unemployed if they choose to wear crooked hats, and have no command of the english language? The majority don't want freedom the way most of us on this site do. They want bailouts, and stimulus. They want undefined "change" that you can believe in. They want houses, filled with furniture, and cars to drive around, they can't afford. They want i-phones. They want too big to fail. Sorry to be pessimistic. But if the majority of people in this country wanted real freedom, these politicians would be awaiting a firing squad. These people think the government poses a threat to their freedoms, because the evil tea party wants to take away their freedom to lounge around while the government pillages on their behalf.

I have to ask myself who are the 50% that believe that Government is NOT taking over their lives. They must be drinking the koolaid.

I've been speaking out now for 3 years. I've marched with the Tea Party organizers in Washington (thought I'm not a member) for the last 3 years, I've written my Congressional representatives and Senators numerous times, I've spoken out when ever given the opportunity possible. Because of this the MSM have labeled me a racist, a domestic terrorist, a nazi and the names go on and on. Frankly, I'm getting weary!

Klayton what are you thinking? If we collapse the rest of the world is going with us. Why would anyone want to go to Mexico, ruled by violent drug cartels, or Africa, where famine and civil war is a way of life is beyond my comprehension. I'm assuming you're joking.

Another 4 years of Obama will destroy this Country. Anyone who runs against Obama will have my vote.

Well, the 50% that doesnt think the government is too big would be the entitlement class. Scary that this class has been allowed to grow so big.

Mexico drug cartels, well that is actually northern Mexico border areas, if you go to central Mexico where my DW is from crime is lower there than here in this city I currently live in. Africa, well South Africa is still controlled by ***well you know, dont want to say that and offend anybody*** and is actually a very nice place if you ever go visit. If you ever go, check out cape point, there is a popular tourist spot where you can actually see where the two oceans meet, and they are of different color so its like someone drew a perfect line separating the two. :) As far as the famine goes, it is in villages that do NOT have government hand outs and they are breeding like there is no tomorrow and (as Gomer would say) SURPRISE SURPRISE we don't have enough food to feed all our kids...

Well, just my 2 copper pieces, remember, YOU can always make a situation better. :)

OH as far as if America falls the world falls. EH, thats kind of a self centered view most Americans have (no offense). But America has almost NO effect 3rd world countries, and other major countries are pretty good at handling their own. I mean seriously, what do we make (other than food that we export disgustingly too much of) that other countries cannot make CHEAPER? Look at the last *real* depression, do you really think that it affected the rest of the world terribly? You might want to check you history book, the rest of the world recovered from the great depression in HALF the time that it took America... just some food for thought... :)

Klayton - I think it depends on the country. A lot of other countries will have very tough times if we collapse, because of the global economy. I was talking with some German guys at a hotel a few weeks ago, who thought the same thing. But there are places, which would be less affected. How about the Philippines? There are muslims there, but still. There are muslims all over now. In places like that, they don't need the global economy. They haven't "advanced" far enough to be so dependent on it. Mexico or Africa might be nice, but have no clue. It wouldn't be my choice. Australia might be nice. Couldn't bring your guns along, but once the US goes down, it will be choosing the lesser of two evils. Not having your guns might not be so bad, when looking at the big picture. I my, did I really just write that? It's sad when you have to think like that. Belize? Brazil? Lots of choices out there. Anyway, I just mention it, because I have wondered where I would go if I ever got to feeling that it was best to throw in the towel. I go back and forth on that. I think about staying and fighting to preserve my country. Then sometimes I wonder what I would actually be fighting to preserve. My idea of America may not actually exist anymore, or be possible to save. Like in Atlas Shrugged. It would be like going on strike for a while, until the lights go out, and we can start over again.

Many people are afraid of speaking their true feelings because they too might be labeled a "domestic terrorist" todays euphemism for what used to be a "Patriot". I think many people have their breaking point and our current government is getting really close to mine. I wonder what America's rallying call will be and whether todays generations will have the stomach for it.
