My experience with hunting Geese has been this #2 shot, that is what we always used, my grandfather, who is now 92, always used this round and killed a LOT of Geese. He stopped hunting in his 80's.

Shooting trap will help. I have found that leading trap and leading Geese are NOT the same thing. The only thing I ever got when I went Goose hunting was a foot, that's right I said foot. I shot the knee down off of a Goose, I laugh at the thought of a Goose swimming in circles out on some lake cause I couldn't kill it. The last time I shot trap I nailed 23/25, I have missed every goose that I shot at. I hear Dove are equally if not more difficult to shoot, the upside with dove is that you can use smaller shot like #8 which means you have more BB's flying at them.

All that fancy camo gear forget it, you don't have the money for it and MILLIONS of hunters before you didn't have it and they brought home Deer and other animals without it. I would get some scent free detergent like one of the previous posts recommends.

Mossberg 500 - For hunting waterfowl you will have a tough time with that short barrel, I believe the barrel you have is basically a slug barrel (it might even be rifled take a look). If you can get a 26" barrel I would if not you will have fun wasting ammo on trying to shoot the ducks/geese. You might be ok with shooting quail and maybe pheasant. Squirrel and rabbit shouldn't be an issue for you either.
