  • do you test your big gear? machines?

related to but a little different that protus' question...
what kind of shape is your truck? car? tractor? in.

i have a large machine that i only use once a week or so.
i had planned a lot of work saturday for this equipment.
found it with a flat tire. a tire that wouldn't fix with a plug or patch.
    --
    pretty close to useless.
    --
    no spare.
    --
one flat tire, made the machine unusable.
    frustrating in today's environment.
but devastating in a shtf environment.

I dont have alot but with my outdoor activities and the fact that until last year I went to work no matter what the weather was like I have pushed my PU to the extreme. Ya know those last famous words we all mutter "sit back, I can make it!" LOL Within the last 2 yrs I have gotten new tranny, tires, u joints, shocks etc. I have 3 good spares and 2 bad ones but they still hold air. I carry all kinds of gear like come alongs, chains, straps, spare parts, hand tools, high lift and hydralic jacks
My camper is on a trailer and I have a spare trailer, both are in good shape but I need a spare for the flatbed. I'm having difficulty locating one but after a discussion it was determined that we could either cut off and reweld the lugs to fit one of the extra car wheels or just weld the wheel to the hub or remove the tire from the rim and using spacers weld the other wheel to it which would be real ugly all post SHTF of course.
    Not great options but options
Cars are decent but ya know murphy, last weekend he showed up and the daughter blew an oil sending unit, I was thinking post shtf I could just put a bolt in the hole and it would still run cause it was still pumping oil out all over the motor without it. Only took 10 minutes with a nearby parts store but it coulda been a game changer with all the oil gone post shtf.

      Simple answer yes.
Most of the big stuff is used constantly between a few houses.
Generally Saturdays are reserved to using equipment around the farm, or on home projects .
