  • EMP and Nuclear Power Plants

I posted this question on One Second After thread couple of weeks ago but didnt get any responces.
Here is a question: in case of a EMP (man made or solar) what do you think will happen to all the nuclear reactors in US?
If you look at a map:

you will see that the entire east coast is covered by them. Some places are with in 20-30 miles of 2 plants. What happens when the lights go out? Does the east coast become a Chernobyl type waste land? I read that they have diesel powered cooling pumps but only enough diesel for a week or so.
None of the famous fiction books mention this but for us on the east coast this might be a big issue.

    Great interactive map BAK.

According to it I'm 150 miles away from the nearest plant. Definitely not a comforting fact.

Not much I can do about it unless I hit the lottery.

The next project is getting a means of powering the well if the power goes out at the BOL.

The link is to Survivalblog.com. An excellent article was written about BAK's question.

In short, unless you are able to Bug Out quickly - you're screwed! Everyone needs to know how close you are to a nuclear power plant incase of an EMP.

Every survivalist should read this article, it may save your life.

I'm in the outer ring of a nuclear power plant, the contaminated food and water ring. Looks like I need some food, water, and some way to deal with possible fallout.

After some searching I found a better map- this one actually shows the 10 and 50 mile radius from the plant.

Monkeybird- that is a great article. I'm surprised I missed it since I am a daily reader. However it just confirmed my fears. Something happens along the lines of "One Second Later" or "Patriots" and we on the East coast are in deep schumer. People out west are slightly better off but not by much since all that radiation from other plants in US, Asia and Europe will eventually saturate the environment. What can we do in case of this situation short of building a bunker and living there the rest of our lives?

I agree with Monkeybird. Excellent map. Now to plan and get more info even though the closest is 120 miles
