That was in the G.C. I talked to a Ranger when my wife & I did some volunteer work there. The folks were using/abusing their SPOT beacon. I think they where charged with the helo charges in the end.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

As well they should be! Those things have a serious purpose and are a good lifesaving tool when used correctly. But some folks just abuse the crap outa them because they were unprepared for what they got into. And more often than not, those things are not used as a lifesaving beacon, but as "I thought hiking and camping was like a TV show and had no idea what I was getting into. I have a $2,000 top of the line GPS, but have no idea how to use it because I didn't read the owners manual and don't really need to because have a SPOT beacon to get me out of trouble."

I personally think if it's not a lifesaving situation, i.e. critical injury or dangerous weather situation which could endanger life, limb or eyesight the person activating it SHOULD be charged for the time, manpower and equipment usage.

The knowledge that you can pick up the phone and dial 911 makes people almost helpless. Over the years, even in the old days, people called 911 for the most frivolous of reasons. However, the younger generation with their cell phones, are much worse. They think nothing of calling 911 for the simplest of reasons. Instead of figuring out how to help themselves, they sit back and let someone else carry their load.

They remind me of the "Looters" in the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand....I borrowed the Audio Book from the Library ripped the CD's to mp3 and listened to it at work...No way would I have been able to read that book...she is very uh hum WORDY!!!

Basically "Looters" take from the people that are willing and able to produce via laws and directives...
