I'm in central Connecticut, and I was sitting at my dining room table grading papers when I started feeling a "rolling" feeling. I thought I was getting dizzy or something, but when I looked up I saw the dining room light swaying. I said to myself, "Am I losing my mind, or was that an earthquake"? And it was! Holy cow! I hope everyone is safe near where it hit. I can only imagine what it felt like down there if I'm all the way up here and felt it! This is definitely a first for me.

Wasn't there something about earthquakes in places not known for them? End times prophecies or something like that? If anyone knows the quote I'd like to hear it again.Man created shotguns because God created cats.
Man, those Muslims sure are worried about what they eat. I went over there and all I heard was Alohaaaaa Snack-bar.

Charlottesville, VA checking in... About 40 miles from the epicenter in Louisa County.
All I can say is, "WOW!" First earthquake of my 45 year life... I was having lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings when I heard and felt this rumbling as if a locomotive train was approaching and passing by, but it took me a few seconds to realize that there are no train tracks near here. Then the rumbling and shaking increased, like on a huge vibrating bed with noise. Looked outside and saw huge plate glass windows of other buildings buckling and warping. People started to get under tables and run outside... Much to my disappointment, I just sat there watching, feeling if it was going to get worse. I was so stunned that this was happening here, a place where I put earthquakes far down on my possible SHTF list, that I didn't REACT like I should have. It was surreal, like this is not really happening HERE, in Charlottesville, is it?
I now have another EVENT to always be aware of here... I am ready and know what to do if the restaurant is entered by armed robbers, and sit accordingly... I know what to do and am ready for a bar fight or something to break out... But I was NOT ready for an earthquake... Lesson WELL LEARNED!-=> Rmplstlskn <=-

Well there is the THEORY of major increases in earthquakes as the comet TD54 approaches and gets REALLY CLOSE on October 12th... Supposedly some kind of alignments with planets as well that will have extra gravitational forces...Originally posted by ibetiny View PostWasn't there something about earthquakes in places not known for them? Just tried to call my husband on his cell phone, and it said "all circuits are busy." And as I sit here watching the news, seeing the cars absolutely stopped in traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge, all I can think is....these were just small tremors felt from the earthquake that happened miles and miles from here, and we are already seeing these effects. Imagine if it were something more significant? My, how quickly things break down. Just another thing that is giving me confidence in my prepping.Last edited by ThePreparedMom; 08-23-2011, 02:59 PM.

I live not too far from the epicenter in Central Va. It was about 1:50pm or so and I was inthe gym, a huge rattling like a low flying helicopter made the entire foundation and wall shake terribly. I remember the small earthquake here in VA in 2003 or so. All my relatives in Northern Va said they felt the quake there too, they thought it was another "Attack". Let me tell you that quake came on all of a sudden, but realized that the buildings, at least some of them in VA are to Earthquake code, such as in Virginia tech. There are a few small fault lines here in the VA.
Also a 6.0 magnitude quake is some serious business here in VA, so the Fredrickburg area nuke plant has been shut down according to the authorities.
Terrible.

AM located 30 mile north of Charlotte, NC. Felt the tremors for about 4 or 5 seconds. me and my compadre immediately took action and we were prepping to skedaddle. We are less than 20 minutes drive from a pretty large Nuclear facility. We had dropped to defcon 4 and getting ready to bugout to retreat....Just in case. :)
