I thought the show stunk. Probably worse than that guys pool and the maggot farm combined. :)

In my opinion the producers wanted to make the sheeple think that anyone who prepares is an idiot.

I took it as an insult.

That kind of how I felt as well. The icing on their agenda was the last (cough, cough) couple. At the same time but, I think I may have learned a thing or two... We'll see!
Either way, I had to take a shower after watching the show, I felt cheap and dirty for watching (but I couldn't quit).

Guess I'll have to wait for it to be posted on youtube like the Nat Geo deal with SouthernPrepper.

We get a pile of emails from various "producers" either asking directly for us or for us to play Judas Goat- i.e, "if you know anyone who would be interested email us back with their info" - yeah flippin right!!! KMA on that one buddy! I don't even reply to most of these emails.

Some folks have said "Rob, your face is already on youtube, why don't you do it and spread the word about your site or company."

First off, that's a stunt double/twin. I still am 220 lbs. I just starved my stunt double for a couple months and made him pull me around the grass on a skateboard to help him trim down LOL. I'm actually a 5' 2" 220 black man living in New York City. But don't tell anyone o.k.? ;)

Second off, I've never believed in making major compromises for the sake of a dollar. Dollars are fleeting, "fame" I don't need.

Most importantly, the TV media is full of lying, cheating ba$tards. I don't trust them. When the original "oh boy this new show about preppers is coming on" thread came up early in the year about the upcoming Nat Geo show, I said that these folks needed to be careful cause the media will twist and change stuff to make us look stupid. Sure enough what happened? A week after the airing you had that heavy set lady saying that they deliberately changed her words, made her look stupid, etc.

BTDT guys. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

"But Rob, don't you think that such a show would help get the sheeple prepared?"

No honestly I don't, at least not in a broad sense. Maybe that's just me, maybe that just my unwillingness to deal with people that haven't yet "woke up." I'd rather try to help the ones smart enough to help themselves. I played the "watchman on the wall" for a couple years almost 20 years ago. I don't have the patience to try to "wake up" sheeple anymore nor the time. I'm in the business of helping people shed their old sheepskins and prepare. :)

Thats understandable for sure. There is a need for quality which seemed to go rapidly downhill as this show progressed. I, like most i think, watch to learn but have been disappointed by over half of what I see. Been bit by the media myself in the Military once so I do understand where you are coming from. They asked a question then showed my answer to another question, thinking I wouldnt see it because I was across the pond but like most kids Parents would they recorded it and mailed it to me. Still there has got to be more than just a few decent ones out there that have something to offer without going over the edge with their politcal, social or personal views. That to me is the downer of it all, very little skill sets being shown, simply having a giant grocery store and lots of tinfoil.

Unfortunately for a lot of folks, that's all it ever is.

More of a "hoarding" hobby than a real "learning" hobby.

"Stuff" won't get us through, skills and mindset will, "stuff" just helps that happen.

Just watched this 60 minutes of absolute garbage. The people they 'chose' to profile certainly don't remind me of any of the survivalists I'm acquainted with. The show deliberately chose the weirdest people they could find in an effort to paint survivalists as weirdo right wing nuts.

The only one that I might remotely think has a clue is Peggy Layton ***I have not read any of her book(s)*** I do think they need to preposition more of their supplies at their mountain retreat and I hope the 30-30 isn't their only weapon. With that said I don't think she came off as a total loon but could be wrong. Some of the others came off just plain wacky.

Survival Doc - hmmm he seems like a quack imo. I personally wouldn't be buying those big silver rounds but to each his own.

Mcclung - he has a nice hydroponic system set up. Hope he has a defense. Seemed very kooky with all the prophesy stuff.

I don't have anything to say about the other group....mama said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

I ditto elittle's comments... My wife and I deleted it before the freaky wierd couple came on, especially after seeing some of their canned MEATS with all that air space... Another example of taking something half-way decent and flushing it down the toilet to have the world's freaks get a stage for their moment of fame... I could care less what they would have said if I had watched that far...

Well, you always have to consider the source. I think it's laughable that the channel name is The "Learning" Channel, when really they don't have much to teach. TLC is a channel that has made its name by sensationalizing families and lifestyles. Jon and Kate Plus 8, Extreme Couponing, Hoarders.....and now this. It's no surprise that this show airs right after Hoarders- they are trying to get ratings, plain and simple. It's just sad that prepping will get a bad name (better put on those tin foil hats) because of the "characters" represented on the show.
