  • Even worse then the last Depression?

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/A-Seco...&asset=&ccode==

Since the true productive capacity of the American economy has been dismantled through scheming (manufacturing, minning, and even agriculture) and the elimination of the Gold Standard.

What is holding things up? A production based economy, no.. A gold backed dollar, no.. Worst then last depression? Yes, Probably. During the last depression, the U.S had an massive industrial capacity and agricultural system in place(not including some of the dust bowl), and powerful mining to create real jobs and their auxiliary spin offs(logistics and clerical). That is not the case this time.

Naturally, the hacks at the propaganda times don't seem to thinks so. But another free trade scam, ponzi scheme, or some more government bonds will get us out this mess..

production is power, China has risen because of massive development of mining, manufacturing, and agriculture. U.S economy is largely based on paper shuffling.

I think the decline of the agarian society will be our destruction. Thomas Jefferson thought so too. He didn't live to see it, but I think he knew exactly what he was talking about.

I'm sorry, but I am finding that article very misleading and incomplete in context and relevance. Please help me find the point that the article is making that has fact versus opinion?

During the Great Depression this country was more rural than urban. People that lived in small towns had gardens and chickens. Welfare came from the church and your neighbors, not the Federal Government. If you didn't work you didn't eat. The next depression will be worse. To many people waiting for someone to come and save them. "God helps those who help themselves", does not mean if it isn't nailed down you can take it. It means to work for what you want.
MustangGal, I think all of the Founding Fathers were alot smarter than anyone around today. They were, in my opinion, simply amazing. They were God fearing men. Thomas Jefferson was a friend and neighbor of one of my ancesters. He talked him into becoming a preacher.

I one hundred percent agree with your reply.
But the article decided to blame the right and even more important, people (TEA party and conservatives) who would like to get back to how our founding fathers envisioned for America. The article kept saying that individuals on the left were wrong as well, but no evidence was offered.

I believe ALL politicians on BOTH sides are to blame for much of what is wrong with our society today. But even more disturbing is the fact that I believe we (as society) are to blame the most for our current situation. As we have allowed THESE people (with no morals) to do this to our ONCE great nation.

TYRANNY has arrived on our shores!

BTW... Deep, I'm not saying this on you. I get where you are coming from, as well and like what you are saying

Notice the incendiary comments toward the conservative republican and the Tea Party in the article. The article seemed to me to be another hit job on conservatives and setting up the conservatives for the blame when things get worse.

Tyranny and HDM, I agree, the article seems to attack conservatives and the Tea Party. I don't see the attack on the left. I see more of a subtle acceptence of Kynesian monetary policies. I don't understand why the reference to the panic of 1873. Unless it was a plea for more time to let those policies take effect.
The panic of 1873 started in Europe and spread to this country because of one investment banker, Jay Cooke and Co., who sold US debt during the war. Cooke was selling bonds for the Northern Pacific Railroad, but couldn't sale them because of the fallout of Black Friday. Cooke ended owning about 75% of the railroad and overextending his bank, causing a run on the bank. This caused stocks to fall and more bank runs around the country. It took 5 years to recover. Banks and bankers. Where have I heard that before?

That is a very scary statement you just made. Yes, where have we heard this before? Recently? Nah, can't be, move along now, nothing to see here...

I really think our Founding Fathers were not only God fearing but God sent.

I think, many times, of the contrast between the founding fathers and Americans today. The founding fathers didn't like what was going on and took action. Most Americans today lament what is going on but will not take action. That is a major factor in my fear for the future of this country!
I am not suggesting that anyone start another civil war (although the thought has crossed my mind that if George Washington were alive today that he would be picking up his gun) but there are still political measures that can be taken.

Just to clarify the discussion, the writer of the article is Simon Johnson from the New York Times. He regularly appears on National Public Radio (aka - Liberal Left Platform). That should say all that's necessary about the validity of the article.

                        To Tyranny,

I was simply trying to bring up that the Toliet paper of rags(NY times) is just trying to dump more garbage, naturally the article was trash. My main point was that is seems that the base causes for this disaster are seldolm discussed by mainstream media. I agree with you, both parties are the problem.

My memory may be faulty, but wasn't WWII the thing that brought America out of the Depression I? Not the various welfare programs that started up because of D1.

And during the Cold War, Communists were jailed or deported. Homosexuality was a closeted beast (pun intended). If a child misbehaved, punishment was given by the teacher, principal, and then the parents. If a child failed at grade school, they were held back. Socialism was a dirty word. California was a conservative state. Illegals were deported, and two different Presidents did it en masse with force. If a product on the market was intentionally tainted/poison, it was sent back to the manufacturer with a hefty fine. Most everyone owned a firearm, and could use it well.

As for the problem, I call the voters on it. They put the various "Leaders" in power. The ones running the asylum were put there by the inmates.
