  • Gun Show & Survival equip & LTS food?

I was at a gun show today with lots of toys, etc, but something I noticed that I thought would fit in was a lack of survival equipment and LTS food. I would think this would be a win-win item or items where at least some like minded people would be. Are there any LTS food, etc at gun shows anywhere or am I really missing something.

Sometimes they show up for "orders" on one brand but they never have stock. I always thought someone who had stock on hand would do very well. People there are looking to spend money, even if they just bought one can I think it would do good, especially now

Couple of GA shows we've attended in the last year have had a small presence of prep related stuff including a guy slinging that Wise crap at a small show in Douglas, GA (small town) and some guys from Atlanta with gear and similar food at a show in Macon. These were both last fall though. Last show I went to was in Waycross a few months back. Not much there prep related expect a lady selling ammo cans that thought she was God's gift to preparedness and beekeeping... LOL

I was there with my wife, as we are looking at the cans, this gal is going on and on about what they are good for, I'm paying about 1/3 attention just looking at the cans. She mentions "....a lot of people even put up food in these cans." That brings a smile and "huh" (as in "huh, you don't say?") type thing from me. She thinks I'm a cynic so she starts to "school me" in food storage. LMAO. Course about half the info is bogus. The wife looks at me like "is she flipping serious?" The sales lady was one of those "I'm gonna talk really fast and not let you get a word in edge wise" type sales people. So finally I cut in and correct a couple of glaring food storage mistakes she's pushing. Cause I figure if she's "schooling" me with that bad info, she's obviously passing it on to others. I switch topic to bees cause she's selling honey. Evidently she is also the QUEEN of all queen bees also, LOL. Her bee knowledge seemed pretty dead on, but her food storage knowledge sucked.

We left and the wife says "sometimes I just want to tell people like that- do you know who your talking to here! I mean really, we've packed hundreds of thousands of lbs. of food commercially and tens of thousands privately!" I laughed and told my wife that she flattered me by being so proud of her dude and not to worry about sales people like that.

Perhaps one day, she'll (the ammo can lady) be looking on Youtube trying to figure out how to correctly pack her food and go "why does that guy look so darn familiar?" LOL If she only knew the half of it ;)

The preparedness industry is very ebb and flow, boom and bust. You can expect to see more prep related stuff at shows this fall and during 2012. After 2013, expect to see a LOT less "players" in the market.

Y2K all over again. Only this time it's easier for the johnny come lately's to play business cause with the internet it doesn't really cost to reach this market like it used to. Back in the day, to reach this market you were looking at $1,500. a month for an ad in American Survival Guide magazine or $750.00 for a 10'x10' booth at a Preparedness Expo. Higher cost of doing business for the sellers but the buyers kinda knew that if someone was dropping $1,500. a month for ONE ad, they weren't going to get screwed on their $30. order. So it all worked out in the end.

Ahhh, the good old days. :)
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"
