I took a short trip to see an Amish guy I met the first time, when I went to buy leather. This time, I was looking for corn and wheat. He was in the cornfield, cutting it down so he could chop it up into silage for winter feed for the livestock. He pointed out that it's been so dry that it won't make good eating corn. He had thirty acres that he was going to cut down and chop up. Then, he pointed out that the lower leaves on the stalks were brown and brittle. "That won't have much food value for the animals," he told me. I agreed. He said he did have some wheat from the winter crop, and I arranged to visit next week to get some. Driving back, I checked out the majority of the corn that was growing close to the road, and most of it was brown on the bottom. It's bizzare, because we had so much rain this spring that they weren't able to get the crops in the ground, and now it's so dry they're going to chop it up into silage. Makes you wonder, don't it?
