  • Don't Let Our Troubled Times Get You Down

With all the bad news that seems to be coming from everywhere it can get a little overwhelming at times. I think its a good idea to unplug from the doom and gloom every now and then. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying give up stick your head in the sand like the rest of the sheeple, we're a different breed than that. I mean we are here aren't we?

What I am saying is maybe don't turn on the tv news or talk radio for a day or two. Don't get caught up in the "crisis du jour". Keep plugging away at prepping but ingnore the media just for a little bit, work on a hobby, go fishing, tell your mate, kids and friends how much you love and appreciate them.

Life has to have breadth as well as length.

    Your thoughts?

well said and I totally agree....I turn off Fox every now and then. Like my friend says "If it bleeds it leads" and that is all they show or care about.

I usually look at a "Bad News" day as a shopping day...

...Buy more bullets, buy more food, buy more buckets...

Ok, maybe that's not what you meant.

Wow...yes it's so easy to get burned out on constant bad news...coupled with all the negative I see everyday in my job it sometimes gets to be too much...wife and I decided to take a break for a while...sit back and focus on other things for a while....we decided to re-invetory our preps to see where we stand....we really need a small vacation to do something fun as a family

Yep I agree. I was a news junkie for a while and I realized that it was getting me down. So I don't watch it much anymore. I still keep up with what is going on. I just check the headlines online but I don't sit and watch it for hours like I used to.

Jon Stewart on the Daily show reports the news better than FOX

Hear ya loud and clear. I usually scan Drudge Report, see that nothing much has changed from yesterday, and go back to my daily life.

I have been the prime example of this thread. Getting cought up in the day-to-day worries of my local world, then seeing all the things going on in the global community (sometimes leaving the news running the whole time I was home). I didn't see the signs of stress on the family...most of which I was causing. Not slowing down and just enjoying the family. Not spending quality time with the kids because of worrying about being financialy strapped...
I could go on but I think y'all get the picture. I have changed some 'habits' and things are easing up a bit, but it was almost too late and would have cost me dearly.

                  Lot's of truth in this.

News is pretty worthless nowadays. Bad times are coming, no doubt about it. The news just seems to misconstru the truth more than give good information.

Amen. You do have to be careful about your source of news because the truth can be told many different ways. It's like my mom used to say about my dad "he will tell the truth 14 different ways before he will lie about it".

I agree 100% BG! It is too easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed with all that is going on in the World today. Like others have said, I scan the headlines and then move on to completing my day-to-day tasks. Prepping is always a part of my focus, but I try not to let it take over my life.

Sometimes hearing about all the bad things happening can get you down because you cannot do much about it. The best thing you can do is to do something you have got a bit of control over. Some of the things I do are--- go for a walk to build up my fitness, do some gardening, sort out a cupboard, clean some jars ready for the next batch of preserves or try something I haven't done before that I have read on a forum like this.
