I have to agree with you on this one. But unfortunately I may have started (prepping) too late.
I may only have ammo to barter with. I don't like that thought, as it could be used against my family to get even more from me.If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

I hear you and appreciate that (and I’m already doing), but I so badly want to do more (and faster). If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

On the one hand, I really cringe at the thought of what an economic collapse
will do to my family, friends, neighbors and country....
On the other hand....
My kid might stop thinking that dad is nuts for storing buckets of food in the basement.Last edited by miked2345; 08-04-2011, 10:20 PM.

Glad to hear I aint the only one that have kids that think dad has gone off the deep end... What's sad is no matter how much I try to warn them of things to come, they get a glazed look in their eyes and start fidgeting with their cell phones... I sure hope when the time comes, they will be able to make the transitionOriginally posted by miked2345 View PostOn the one hand, I really cringe at the thought of what an economic collapse

My daughter will sometimes ask her mother "Is Dad OK?" "I'm worried about him storing all this stuff."Does he really think anything bad is going to happen?"..And all the while she is saying this she is collecting a couple of bags of food and staples out of "Mom and Pops country store" I am about to do a stock rotation and a large resupply list. Why? It has been said that when the banks shut down, for a short while cash will be king, but real quickly it will turn into trash. As LD3 said get out as much cash as you can and have it ready because it will not take long for the masses to realise that paper, gold and silver cannot be eaten.

All I can say is prepare....I know its tough on everyone in this economy..I had to take a long hard looks at my needs versus wants. My wife was struck down with Lymes disease and rocky mounted spotted fever in 2007. We lost half our income pretty much over night. So we made it a priority at getting ready. In 3 years after cutting out nonessential stuff we have managed to get a years worth of food, ammo, meds etc. So like my good friend the Urban Survivalist would say, "do you want to live like everyone else or are you wiling to prepare for something that could never come". I personally want to prepare for the thing that may never be. It may not be total collapse it could just be a setback in our economy..but the peace of mind it brings me knowing my family won't go hungry let's me sleep better at night. When my wife got sick we were literally down to our last cans of food. My pantry was empty...that was our wake up call. It's not about 2012 and the end of the world. If something that big ever happened we would all be gone in the blink of an eye..think about what would happen if you got laid off...if you didn't get paid for a month....having food and other preps on hand lets you know the basics are covered for you family...all I can say is prepare....prepare....prepare.The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

All I can say is you have to commit fully to this...there is no half way point....Im not saying go bankrupt doing this either.....take steps and set aside for your preps.....my wife and I now use our food preps in everyday cooking...saves us money also on groceries every monthThe strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

My wife and I had the PLEASE DON'T THINK I'M A NUT JOB talk about a year ago. It went over well with her. She took a look at the world and saw that it could hit the fan. We went out the next day and stocked up on food. Some times she thinks I go over the top with the BOB's as she dose not see a need for some things. She know it may happen but I don't think she knows how hard it will hit. As for what you said about cash. I like cash on hand, but like silver more. If somone dose not want money silver can be worked with to make STUFF! Thanks.Originally posted by ssonb View PostMy daughter will sometimes ask her mother "Is Dad OK?" Thank you for your testimonial. Am very glad things worked out as well as they did for you. I'll go back and read this again, from time to time and I'll keep prepping.Originally posted by baldsith View PostAll I can say is you have to commit fully to this...there is no half way point....Im not saying go bankrupt doing this either.....take steps and set aside for your preps.....my wife and I now use our food preps in everyday cooking...saves us money also on groceries every month"Well, you know what they say: 'Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. Sorry, I meant the testimonial about being nearly out of food. That would have been a life changing event for anyone.Originally posted by claymore View PostThank you for your testimonial.
