  • How much foraging are you planning to do?

After reading a article today on line about poaching, i was wondering how many people are planning to "live off the land" or are actually planning on surviving on taking local game, or going down to the lake and catching fish to live off of.

when people get real hungry, not missed a meal hungry, but hungry enough to eat road kill, a few cops will not stand in anyones way without a lot of people getting hurt. those people had others ratting them out, when everyone is hungry, it will be different.

Decided to delete my post ...
... Please follow ALL laws !
      (I hold full-blown combo hunting+fresh/salt fishing license ... 100% goes to conservation).

      I am ABOUT to purch an All-Texas, All-Parks Entry/Camping Permit ... and, again ...
... ALL of these meager/reasonable fees go to land/wildlife conservation & maint.

Planning, shoot I'm doing it now! Not poaching but foraging and hunting/fishing. It will not stop afterwards. It's not my whole plan by a long shot but fresh meat is fresh meat and any green things or berries will be a welcome sight. I've eaten prepared food for extended times and a piece of fruit or a bowl of berries can make a whole world of bad things disappear!!
Almost everyone has visions of Red Dawn and headin to the hills and here SE Okla will quickly become overun with "we deserves and needs" because thats where the big antlered game is. Them gold enlayed brownings will be a glitterin in the woods for about 1 mth while thye watch a plethora of small game walk by and look at the (tasty) birds tweeting on the limbs beside them, till they all starve out and them high dollar ranger boats will be adrift with no fuel and 2 decent size largemouth bass for the effort while all the perch and carp still swim circle around there sun exposed starved bodies.
Survival hunting aint walkin 1/4 mile to the stand and sittin on the feeder set to go off at a late 0900 and survival fishin aint got nothing to do with the jones' boat horse power and a $200 rod!!
The real woodsman will soon seperate himself from the dollar laden sheeple

Foraging and hunting/fishing is part of what I try to build my skills and experience in ever year. But I will not relay on them for more them about 25% of my family’s food. To many people will try to do this with to little skill and knowledge.
For 3 years ever June I took a wild edibles class from a man who works in my churches co-ed scouting organization with me. I would do the classroom stuff watch the slide show then walk around with him as he pointed out what was in season. I would ask him how to prepare the greens and berries to feed my family and never got detailed answers.
I have started collecting information on how to safely prepare the greens and taught a class called the worst meal you have ever eaten. 10 different wild edibles all cooked up and served. Trust me it did not taste like chicken! but it is an acquired taste that I need to learn to like. A little salt helps a lot.
Also I need to learn how to preserve the harvest so that I can have it through out the year. And along with that I need to learn how it grows and haw to get plants to grow in different areas so that I can find them in more places when I need them around my bug out location.
Hunting and fishing I need to do more of to get back in the mind frame and skill set. I have done less and less as I have gotten older.
