A friend (K )of mine came over and following her in was one of her so called " Im better then you" I guess they went to college together and was in the same sorority. anyway. I am not college educated but more like Street life taught. During this time I was dehydrating vegetables for my Mres that I plan on making for my food storage.B.O. Bs.
K's Friend, I will call ( Dutz) said that I was crazy, that the world will not have a food shortage and It was a waste of time. and I am crazy Dislusional for even trying to store. food. During a crisis the markets will remain open. that the End will never happen.No Zombies either! . Lightening came out of my ears, and I saw Red!! Well, I told her . Dont come knocking at my door if your hungry, cold, sick etc. "I might cook her."she's not good enough for my dogs... If I was crazy., and wasting my time. it was my business and not hers. I even came back with the remark , " I bet ya think meat is from a supermarket too? See We eat elk, deer, antelope . wild game. as part of our diet. But that is animal cruelity to alot of people ? arrghh anyway.. Then the thought Came to me.. I am making up some so called barter type meals, for trade or what ever to keep people away from me. I am not sure that is the way to go.. or is that making more trouble for me?? Hmm:confused:( I dont know about the Zombie comment)
My question is this to you.. IF, the situtation occurs, . Who would you help or would you not? How would you know and who really needs it? right or wrong.. I have to think about my own.. First...

Their is some people you'll NEVER educate. Some you will NEVER be able to help. That's life.

A couple that's like minded that we know came by our place a few years ago and the wife and I helped them pack some food. The wife was talking with my wife. The topic came up about "telling others" about preparedness, etc. My wife explained that outside of the internet or campouts (all amongst like minded folks), we don't do anything to try to inform others, etc. I did that A LOT in the early 90's at gunshows, etc. You would seem the same people show after show. Some would gather some info and do nothing with it. Some would argue everything with you. A very small few would come back, try to learn what they could, etc. A very small few.

That's how it's always been, that's how it will always be.

We have to balance OPSEC and our (self imposed) need to "inform others."

Honestly, it's been almost a decade since 9/11. It's been about 6 years since Katrina. Any non retarded adult or anyone that was a kid when these things happened and has now become an adult, that cannot at the very least understand the need to be able to fend for themselves for a while- is completely stupid.

Let's be serious here. God has given this country more than a few wake up calls over the last decade. If they can't even entertain the POSSIBILITY, your never gonna reach them.

Give it a few months, if you see that gal again, tell her how it was passing fad of yours, how you sold your dehydrator, gave the food away to the soup kitchen, etc.

A close minded idiotic liberal like that could be a major problem for you if something happens.

@ Matt in Oklahoma... Yeah, I have come to the same conclusion.... I am careful more then ever.. . I dont have many vistors. any more.. thats ok..
As for Dehydrating meals for Backpacking trips etc. I just finish making Red beans and rice , & Cauliflour/Broc soup mix ,and red pepper and rice soup... I cooked the beans , rice first then Dehydrated them. I have no meat in any of my Mini meals. ..I make separate packets , if I want meat I add it later.. thanks for all the comments...

You can't help or educate the world. I view it as planting a seed. I give them food for thought and it's up to them to water that seed and let it grow or let it die. At least I can say that I did my part. If it ever comes down to them knocking on my door, I will remind them and tell them that I will not allow mine to starve because they chose to ignore my advice.

Let them think what they want. To prep or not to prep is your decision. Look at it as insurance, you have car/homeowners so why not "food and water insurance".

Well there's afew ways to keep things on the down low. ..like admin pointed at.
Most things we have out in the open hercan be pointe to as protus, camping or hunting gear. If folks arrived unannouced ,and immaking dehydrated vegies. Its for my backpacking trip..or for my child at school. "Tryig o give her healthy snacks...". See the difference. Verse jumping into BoB s and zombies...

Great point.

I'm always going on about stealth ... and ... Psychological Stealth, BEFORE the fact, has at least TWO advantages.

1) It will spare you social ridicule. Why lay yourself open to judgement and gossip ? ... It serves no constuctive end.

2) Why IMPRESS, upon people's minds that YOU are a likely source of supplies, should THEY find themselves "desperately short" ?

There is no need to "set yerself up for trouble", now or later ... I am now a serious Backpacking Camper.

I am currently performing urban pack/weight training, in preparation for a long pack-hike, later this year.

A bit thin but ... better than mentionning Zombi-Fest.

I really should have realized this much sooner ... it should have been obvious ... strict/consistent policy, from this point forward.
