We do not have a well, So I bought 4 55gallon water/food grade barrels. Filled them up and let them sit in the basement. Guess what they are heavy. And I can not move the until they are empted. And the need to be drained at lest ever 6 mouths cleaned and refilled with fresh water and bleach. Do not let them sit and forget them thinking you have fresh water to during.
Just thought I would share my learning pains with y'all.

Well we dont have a well here in sunny AZ...thats the bad part for us but we are working on it....mostly we stock up on bottles and jugs of water..plus we have water treatment stuff and I just got a plan for a distiller from my buddy. We also supplement it with gatorade when they are on saleThe strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

It may sound funny but my wife has her own tool sets and she can use them. She knows how to shut down the water system and the gas. She can rebuild a carburetor on a small engine or fix the lights on her truck. If it sounds like I am a lazy you know what, keep in mind that my goal is for her to be able to take care of herself if I don't make it. If you baby those you love you put them in harms way. they have to know how to do or they are dependent on someone else always.

But this is just the thought I'm working on right now. As I continue to search and learn. I saw this video (no direspect ment if this is someone on this site).
This video, among general store bought food storage items is what it is (better then nothing). But when the video showed a container for a three day supply for two people, I had a double take on the lack of water for two people for three days.
Please let me know if I'm wrong with my assumption, but there appears to be no consideration for water consumption other then drinking in a (he said stress situation) "SHTF" time. There appears to be no thought for any other uses for water in the plan, including cooking of all things(even though it was mentioned in the video).
Back on topic, Great to hear you and the kids responded well. Afterall is said and done..."Tested Knowledge is Confidence"

I agree but lets go a little further and talk about what you will need water for in a long term ordeal. Dishes, you have to cook even if you have paper plates, Laundry, underwear can only be flipped so many times, Hygiene, seems to become even more important after bad stuff happens, Animals, very rarely mentioned and even cujo or kitty will need some. The barrels and jugs are just a start plan or for the days when other stuff happens and refills dont happen, there has to be a long term solution to refill that stuff such as stand alone items like wells, ponds, streams, lakes etc. Just think about what happens after 2 wks?
Also on the subject of bodies of water, one of my plans is to collect using my deer cart and jugs if needed. The water is back from the shoreline almost 56 ft from where it was right now. That shoreline is treacherous and deep muddy right now so it would be a challenge because just getting a downed dove was difficult much less carrying 60 extra lbs in 2 jugs back up.Just something to think aboutKnowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

Ok so rotated my water again today. I did it last time just before this well issue. What i didnt realize was that when the well was going out it was stirring up alot of sand in the bottom and this was what had settled to the bottom of my containers. I almost had a cow when I went to change it before i understood that it was just sand in the bottom of the container.Originally posted by Matt In Oklahoma View PostSo at 2:00am the wife comes into the bedroom crawls up next to me and whispers in that oh so familiar raspy voice and quietly breathes the words softly into my ear:
We don't have any water, I think the well is down.
LOL what did you think i was gonna say, this is a family channel LOL
As I started to get up she says dont worry about it i'll call the landlord in the morning and everything is fine and that my son who had just come in from work already had the water jugs out and in place.
Today as we were waiting on the repairman and landlord she talked about refilling jugs and i told her not to worry about it, no hurry, because we had 200+ gallons of drinking water outside and they had only used 1 stash of jugs in the house and we still had another 20+ gallons worth. I told her I also had filters that could turn the pool into usable drinking water as well.
I love her, she is only partially onboard but i dont think it actually set in till today how much we actually have. It's awesome that the kids reacted and handled it without me even giving directions. You always wonder if that grey matter is absorbing what you are telling them.
The well is repaired, I learned alot today from the repairman who allowed me to assist as a helper in turn for the knowledge. Man it feels good to know that it's 105 and i dont "NEED" that faucet to stay going for weeks even.
