  • Anyone else going out and topping off their preps before the August deadline???

Starting to get a bad gut feeling, so today I went on out and topped off my water preps....bought quite a bit of dry cooking good......went and grabbed some more silver...and then took inventory of my ammo supply and went out and bought a few boxes of the caliber I thought I was lacking in. Also topped off the gas tanks in the vehicles and bought another 8 gallons of coleman fuel. Nothing more therapeutic than procuring more preps to make you feel at ease.

I really can't do more than I do every week. There are primers we should all watch for IMO and this is one for sure. Even after Aug we won't be outta the woods. It does make you feel better after doing something

I've been hearing all this since 1977 and Tappan's Survival Guns, aint happened yet, and if it ever does, 90+% of people, worldwide, will be dead in a year. In the US, 10% will be dead in 1 month. That many are utterly dependent upon power, vehicles, heat, air conditioning, refrigeration, drugs, medical help. 10% of 300 mllion is 30 million corpses rotting where they fell, with dog packs feeding upon them, and polluting the water supply.

We'll be staying home that week. We'll work from home and stay close for that week.

I REALLY DOUBT anything will happen, but that being said.....

Power grid is weak and certain "volatile" cities are already having rolling blackouts, everyplace is hot, money is tight, lots of "de owes me" attitudes and sentiments flying around.

I think it's really close to American Riot season....

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

I wouldn't worry about this Aug 3rd deadline, they'll raise the debt, high five each other and laugh at the people who put them in office, it's the next deadline to think about, but it gives late comers more time to get prepared.

                      Me? ...
... I am slowly building a ~6month(++?) supply, to culminate ~late August of 2012, just to beat the inevitable RUSH (on food and supplies), before December 2012 ... the most publically notorious and most credible "date" which may, in it's own self (by it's own fame) precipitate a stock sell-off and a rush for goods and guns ... I think THAT will be more crazier and have more "innate fallout" than Y2K and, like Y2K, the months that follow may see a huge economic slump and backlash, after sales plummet, and folks decide to consume their stored booty (rather than to shop), for several months, thereafter ... so ... I am buying the non-perishable tools/gear and hard-staples, now ... emphasizing priorities such as robust and redundant water harvesting, filtration and purification, portage, etc. ... And will start collecting and filtering 5-gal water "cooler-jugs" (like on the office water cooler) and some Gerry Cans, etc. ... because, no matter what the economic climate, lots of good water, and the means to get/make more, is NEVER a waste of monies.

Then, as we roll towards THIS xmas? ... Hard staples, like MREs and Soup Beans and other foil-packed staples and long-life foods and nutrients ... I will get the most perishable stuff, last, in the Summer and very early fall, of next year ... While others are focused on soup-beans and hard-wheat ... I'll be getting quick-oats and farina and canned meats, etc. ... which will last a year or more, but not much more than two years.

... Then? ... If nothing happens? ... Wait till the shopping frenzy is over and slowly consume, rotate, re-stock, on a very moderate basis, and donate any surplus, before it spoils.

If the poop hits the fan, before that? ... I will still have hard staples and my (always stocked) boogy-packs and lots of surplus to barter ... so ... I'm a bit short, 'till this time next year, but miles ahead of the general populus ... (but that ain't sayin' much!).

                      =Elmer= (Shhhh!)

Continued as normal, except I bought some more silver the other week when it was down to about 34 an oz. Maybe Bernanke will come out with QE3 if no deal is reached. Maybe he'll do it either way.

So, what is the most common silver coin, for use as "tender", here in the USA and ...
What is the most cost-efficient source/method, of acquiring silver, for generic transactions ?

Depends on who you ask I guess. American Silver Eagles are a very common, sort of "the standard" for silver coins, I guess. There are others, which are more exotic, and more suited for collectors. But silver eagles are good, one ounce each, recognizable coins. However, post SHTF may be different. If you get older coins, such as dimes, quarters, and half dollars, they are a smaller quantity. Most are 90 % silver. So depending on what you plan to be buying, or potentially doing, it may be nice to have some coins that are of less value. If silver goes through the roof, like it very well might, one oz could be too much for whatever you're buying, if you are thinking of using this more as currency, rather than the dollar, with other people. You can find bags of mixed, older, 90% silver coins at various places you would also buy precious metals from. But to hedge against inflation, if you have American Eagles, they are sort of the norm to use I suppose. They are one oz each, and a little more than one oz bullion prices, so basically worth whatever silver is an oz. They are more heavily bought and sold, I believe, than other silver coins.
