No message of hope. And the family at the end? Were they following to help, or jack their goods?

The movie was a bit weird. I haven't read the book. The family at the end seemed to me like his mother and her new family that was following her son and ex till they finally caught up to them.

Not something I would watch a second time I think.

The best "message" in the movie I think was for the guys that have the spouses that are against preparing and/or don't have the right mindset.

The wife essentially ditches her family. Every scene she was in she was an albatross around their neck. Constantly talking of suicide, death "other families are doing it" as she encourages him to kill them and then himself. WTF over?

I think of that girl (sorry she wasn't even what I would consider a real woman or a real Mom) when I read posts sometimes and guys do the "my wife LET me buy an extra roll of TP, yippee!" Men, you have a responsibility to lead, provide and protect your family. Period. God lays that out and never do I see the words "if she LETS you" in Scripture.

For the folks that aren't Believers, understand that a girl like that would be an absolute DRAIN on you during a real situation. Speaking of death and suicide constantly, chide him for not being "manly" enough for suicide, etc. He lost NOTHING when she walked out into the cold.

And while putting back a couple more cans of beanie weenies can be important, what's MORE important is having a wife that is your "helpmeet" not your hindrance. A good companion, not a good complainer. Your right hand, not a suicidal lunatic. A team player, not a jezebel that's trying to lead the family when she might not be adequately equipped for the task.

So, to me, the most important thing to take from that movie is the fact that most all of us need to work on our family setups more. My wife doesn't always like to go train, or spend her summers canning, but she understands the importance of that and gets it done. She's not a super survivalist by any stretch but then again neither am I.... But she is my partner and I'd trust her fully to do the right thing when it's necessary.

And that doesn't come from trickery, from "bribes" aka "Here honey I bought you a new piece of jewelry and I bought a night vision set for myself"- tit for tat rarely works and just produces spoiled brats IMO. It comes from hard work, compromise and a lot of communication. I'm hardly saying ours is a picture perfect relationship, but I am proud of her for doing what she does and working like she does. I better quit before I get all emotional and all.... LMAO

So the question is- do you want to have your spouse (wife, hubby, SO) be a HINDRANCE to you like the worthless winch in The Road, or do you want someone who will be helpful to your families survival?

          Preach it brother 1Admin!

Life will be tough after TSHTF, no place for loaner Rambo types or having a millstone around your neck.

I consider myself a very lucky man in that I have a family that supports me 100%.

As an example I bought 50lbs. of peaches yesterday and they are all canned now!

I guess I'm pretty lucky. After being single for a lot of years, I got back together with Momma_32. She will not be a mill stone around my neck. She is not into prepping like I am, but she is glad to have the extra food, and doesn't say anything about my prepping.

Instead of her being a milstone around his neck he could of made her into jerkey for the road trip.

                LOL 50

Definitely would have been a better use for her. And the boy could have brought "mom" along with him... LOL

Yes we are just playing around folks

I never read the book so can't compare to the movie but this was the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Immediately after watching it I thought - why the heck did I watch that all the way thru. idk guess I was hoping for something else to happen but just more dark depressing scene after scene. Naw that's not how the world's gonna be if major shtf. Too many people like us and rural self suffient types to carry on.

My son wanted to watch it after me and I told him not to bother. too depressing

Is there a Christian Prepper Dating Service, in Texas ? ! LORD ! ...
... How GREAT it would be to have an ABLE partner ! (A help, .. NOT a drag ! ).

Women are supposed to be SO INTO "material security" but, somehow, social networking leads to
"community pressure" (political correctness and "group think") ... which destroys the family.
I am SO DONE with "Godesses" and arrogant Berkies-and-Volvos types ... They seem to think Whole Foods Market will save their souls.

Nothing against wholesome organic fare, mind you.

Just a good, plain, able woman ... please. Now that my only kid is off to college.
