It was a very sad movie. Very dark but it did show paranoia trumping commonsense & decency.
Yes, lots of very bad decisions... But sadly it was probably the most realistic of any unprepared person SHTF portrayal I have ever seen/imagined. Very sad and dark.... very dark. But that is what could happen...
My girlfriend and I watched it in the theater. I was trying to get her more into prepping, and I thought, this will probably help. So about a month ago, after we split up after eight years, I'm at best buy, and picked up a few movies and decided to get that one to watch again. I go home, and watch it sitting there by myself, and just thought, God what a depressing movie. I mean all the way to the end. Why did I buy this? Am I becoming masochistic, LOL? Real depressing. But it definitely points out how bad off folks could be without any preps. It definitely made me think more about security of the homestead.
protus why was it a great book

if you can read that kind of typingfor 200 pages enjoy it :P
( the book and movie foloow each other pretty well for the most part,,,,but it is a dark film)
The world ended, you have a son to protect. Kill everyone in your frickin path if necessary. Oops did I say that out loud? LOL The main character was a sissy in that respect if you ask me. You don't need bullets to whack people.....
Best idea in that book was the whole deal where he is there in the shelter whittling down wood to make it LOOK like he had bullets left in his revolver. No mention of taking the other ammo. You might not currently have a weapon that uses that ammo, but you may find a weapon that does use that ammo in the future. Haul a couple extra lbs. to have the CHANCE of getting a weapon working in that bad of a scenario? You bet I would. Just the fire starting ability would be worth hauling them.
Book was more morbid than the movie IMO, but the movie was bad also. Typical defeatist "we are all gonna die" nuclear movie. Up there with Testament and Threads.
To each his own, but it was a terribly depressing book and after reading it there was no way I'd waste my time on the movie. JMHO
Oh it was a terribly depressing book, but it was thought provoking. It was very dark, but I can't say that it doesn't (sadly, but perhaps accurately) depict what lows people would sink to in a SHTF situation. Some people will simply believe that there is nothing they can do and that they will die. Others will just try to get out of Dodge and hope to find a more habitable place to live because they did not prepare in advance. In fact, in one terrible part of the book people had resorted to cannibalism, and in Patriots Rawles also deals with this idea.
I saw it, cried a woman's tears. Then saw how unprepared they were. It was raw, depressing and will become true for so many in this country sooner than they can imagine. That's the saddest part.
