mb,i agree with you..SS is NOT an entitlement..we paid into it..the entitlement to me means all the "baby mommas" that have never contributed 1 cent into the system they are suckin off of. If the high and o so mighty Obommer wants to make a point, why not do this, first and foremost,PAY OUR MILITARY,AND ALL VETERANS BENEFITS. this is first priority, then pay interest on our debt..then stop ALL payments, even Obommers salary, all congressmen senators and all govt employees, dont try and target one group (in this case the ole folks) and scare them. The reason "da baby mommas" money and benefits dont get mentioned or cut is when they did cut them, there will be blood flowing in our streets that would make past riots here look like a cakewalk. So my friends, better buckle up and lock and load,it might get nasty here in couple weeks..

One huge injustice with social security is that, as stated above, people have paid into it, yet they were forced to, and it has been mismanaged to this degree. Those people who paid, had no say in what happened to that money. They didn't have the choice to manage it as they would a 401K. So the government does this and says "sorry, none left." The government forced everyone to put money away for retirement, which is eventually not going to be there. People are going to get the shaft. That is completely screwed up. You look at the folks about to retire, or in retirement, and combine that with the level of unemployment and the state of the economy. Whatever is left, will probably be insufficient in many cases, and folks will be very hard pressed to go back to work, which sucks for them anyways, just to make ends meet. And it is obvious that these clowns aren't concerned. We need serious reform of social security. It needs to be privatized in my opinion, and in a manner which doesn't completely screw the folks who need to be collecting there checks. But, why even consider that, when you can use it as a tool to demagogue Republicans, by running your scumbag mouth and scaring folks. Checks will go out, unless Obama decides not to send them, specifically. There are numerous other areas that could be cut, rather than this. Social Security is one of the largest scams in the history of the country. And there will be people, at some point, who will not get the money they paid into it.

Here's another thought on some of the "I paid into it I deserve it crowd".

Over the last several years I have had conversations with different people about our Nation's increasing debt problem.
Two people I personally know are my FIL and my uncle. One is a Dem and the other a Repub. I wouldn't consider either a party "tool" as they usually look for the letter following the Politicians name when voting but I know they have also voted the other way.

I put these two examples in two different groups:
          1) They have seen the continuing problem but instead of making decision to vote in more fiscally responsible congress. They went with the "soft" talk at the podium and all the pledges to get elected and then didn't keep their winners "feet to the fire". What happened to the "lock box" the SS fund was suppose to be kept in?.. it seems they were "asleep at the wheel"

2)The folks that want it all without paying for it. Some want all the spending; Military, social, safety nets, special interests...but they also want lower taxes?? Some American's don't even know, what they want. We can't have both people, you want all of this stuff? Then you have to pay for it..like we are doing now.

These two groups have been going on for the past 60 years. Now they wonder where "their" money is going?

Both parties are "playing the game". No one is offering a realistic proposal. Obummer wants something like $5 Trillion of the deficit cut over 12 years or so and the GOP wants $4 Trillion cut over 10 years. Folks we have a $1.6 Trillion deficit each year. Their "cuts" would only equate to about $400-420 Billion each year in deficit reduction. That sounds like a lot, but it still means we go into debt over $1 Trillion each year. I even remember someone saying "RSC spokesman Brian Straessle explained that the RSC wants this year's $1.4 trillion estimated deficit to be cut in half next year." Now they say in the article that the CBO feels like the deficit will shrink to $1.08 Trillion next year due to projected revenue increases (I call Bravo Sierra here). So doing the math they would only need to come up with $381 Billion in cuts. (I guess they believe the CBO) This will allow the GOP to look like they are trying to do a good thing, but the CBO will "re-adjust" their projection in the future when the revenues don't increase. Now just today I find "At the same time, Republican leaders orchestrated a series of public moves intended to soften the blow for conservatives. They agreed to give the House an opportunity to vote on two top conservative priorities: a so-called cut-cap-and-balance bill, which would order $111 billion in cuts in federal programs for 2012 and impose a cap on future spending, and a constitutional amendment that would require a balanced federal budget." So now it seems they have dropped it even further to cutting the deficit by only $111 Billion. Let us do the math, that is only about 7% of the 2011 projected deficit of $1.6 Trillion. Or let us look at the CBO projcted deficit in 2012 of $1.08 Trillion, so it would equate to about 10.3% or so if that number turns out to be true. WE WOULD STILL BE GOING INTO DEBT BY $969 Billion. It can't be done, real cuts have to happen. I don't know where the cuts need to come from, but I know when they need to happen...now! We cannot postpone it any longer, it has to happen. We can debate if the debt ceiling needs to be increased or not, or if SS, Medicare, Medicaid or entitlement programs need to be cut. Heck I don't care if they fire the White House janitor. WE HAVE TO REIGN IN THE MONEY GOING OUT. Here's an idea, let us stop paying the POTUS and all the CONgress critters and only resume their paychecks when they clean up this mess.
