Scent is something we need to be concerned with as it can work for you or against you. Smell may need to be contained when in the woods. Things that can be used are cedar branches, scat, oils from animals such as hogs, deer, skunk, coon, beaver or muskrat. I recommend avoiding predator scents unless you want to avoid other animals such as when bugging out and speed is more important.

Good points Matt.. I have always thought about this myself. I stock all the shampoos and soaps but unless rationed they would be gone in a year. My wife is all about some showering, even if we go hiking or camping, she is in the creek or under the shower bag...me...well, that stink gives me character!
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

Another consideration about odor control is being tracked. I keep several small packets of pepper in my BOB just for that. I use the small packs like you get for individual servings in a fast food place. I think scattering a couple of them on your trail should discourage most dogs. I've heard that it makes the dog useless for two days, but I'm not sure about that. I don't know why anyone would want to track you, but it's a small thing to prepare for, and doesn't take up much space at all.

smelling salts or straight ammonia will curl up their noses also.

As a nurse for many years, it was once considered unprofessional to wear scent while working with patients. Imagine being sick and have Avon come calling. Anyway, younger healthcare professionals, both male and female wear it all the time. I can smell them coming a block away. Yuk.

I can also tell you that bottom sand from a like or stream will clean you body as well as soap, and leaves no scent. Friction is what cleans the best!

Matt, 2 weeks without a shower is difficult to take. You said you could smell someone who'd recently had a shower because they didn't have body odor. Wonder if you can buy Ode de la Human no bath scent?
