I know it will be serious times , but I am making sure I have put aside some footballs , baseballs , frizbees and other outdoor items . I don't want to just work , work , work , I want to be able to toss the balls around , throw some horseshoes and other outdoor fun stuff . If I can't have a few moments of enjoyment PAW , then I might as well eat a bullet now . I want to live , not just survive and lose all my little times of fun .

I know many disagree with it but I have stuff put up as well. Even when deployed to other places we carried, got sent or made stuff. I have heard the argument that "yes you guys could do that because you had the support base". True but if you dont have or get it or become secure enough not to need it you aint gonna last anyway IMO. Conplacency is a killer and boredom leads to complacency.
The mind can only tolerate so much gloom and doom. Cards, books and board games are good to have to.Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

I caught a little down time this morning , so I loaded my son up on his bike , threw the Chesapeake Bay Retriever on a lead and we headed to the river . We waded and played while Stonewall Jackson ( the Chessie ) fetched sticks and was swimming and chasing ducks . If I cant find time for the little things , I don't feel its worth the effort . I know that there might be a few weeks , months even ( I hope not years ) , where I might have to be packing and standing point while the family plays , but I want to be able to hear them laugh and smile whenever they get the chance . I am an emergency responder and I deal with a lot of tragic events and even when things are at the worst , I see people smile and I know it is going to be OK from there . You have to let off steam or you will wind up frazzled and burnt out . When I was in the service , we always had time to shoot some hoops , throw a football , even roast marshmallows and hotdogs , those little things kept you sane when things were insane .

I work in high stress fields and have since i was 19. Self diagnosis of burnout will keep you alive and healthy. Even in the moments before and after the fight we joke, fart and giggle because it's a way to deal. I have had days when I literally looked at my wife and said "if I go, I'm gonna hurt someone when i shouldn't". I get like that, my children are one of the best wind downs, babys are a close second though many moms won't let the ugly mean lookin guy hold'em, I understand, heck dunno if i'd let me touch'em sometimes.
That's whats wrong with the middle east IMO, they are burned out cause they don't fish! I mean seriously you ever seen any fisherman from round here waring, hatin and such. Nope, it's cause we fish:)Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

Not having to worry about children, I have adult entertainment. (No not that kind'!) I have around 200 audiobooks, I've put on thumb drives, and at least 300 printed books. This doesn't include my 'how to do stuff' books. I have some board games and some cards. Fishing is nice, if someone will bate my hook and take the fish off the line.
Anyway, I have audiobooks because I clip my Ipod to myself and work while I listen. I do those mundane chores like vacuum and mop, you get the picture. I imagine I'll grind wheat to the words of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. When I listen, I forget how much I hate doing the chore.
