  • BOL Route Ambush Points

How many have mapped out the possible ambush points along their BOL routes? You should have multiple routes and therefore numerous locations. Some folks have a short drive and some have a longer one. For the longer routes along main roadways some of your work may have already been done for you. The best ambush points will be used by traffic enforcement.
Think about it, how many times have you been cruising along, whistling to the radio, and BANG there's the radar unit. You never saw them until you were right on top of them. That's the point.
Now think about where that happens and the terrain features. Around curves, just over the hill crest, behind the bridge slope, near that brushy area this is what you need to be looking for.
Now that we are thinking and marking our maps we have the million dollar question, what do you do about it?

Very thought provoking thread. On the same line, have you thought of where to put your own defensive ambush points to your bol? I'll have to reaccess my route.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Depends on the situation, EMP I would go as the crow flies and like in Patriots roads are for people that want to get ambushed. I still might do the same if it were another situation. I do need to get some topo maps asap :)

" what do you do about it? "
        your question haunts me.
        Here's my stab.
If you are bugging out by vehicle, and your's is the only vehicle, you will be somewhat screwed:
        1. You are your own backup.
        2. You are your own scout.

Ideally, you should have a plan on going around areas where you think an ambush could occur.
If this is 'early in the ballgame' as it were, you can use several human tendancies in your favor.
        1. Be where they ain't: if they have a roadblock, I bet they didn't block all the road around them.
        2. Engage, retreat, go around: Throw a little lead, GTHeckO, and skirt. Kinda like Being where they ain't.
        3. Doze em down! Just blast through them. Especially helpful at hasty roadblocks.
        4. Take'm down. If you are feelin' that bold, chances are you are in a convoy, and the rules are different then.

What's the old saying? "If the enemy is in sight, so are you." Might have to do some research on E & E for that one. (Escape and Evasion) They send all Air Force pilots and crew through that course, and the main emphasis is to be where the bad guys aren't looking for you. I don't know how well that would work in a bug out situation, but it would definitely be something to consider.

Training and thought are never wasted. E&E can reshape your mindset
