Well got me an early Fathers Day present from the Daughter!
One of the Bear Grylis Survival Knives. Now i'm a real Survivalist! LOL
Actually i wanted one to put through the paces. It's a survivalist knife for someone that wants to be found. I thought it would be good for my hunting bag as it has the orange in it and we are rquired to wear orange in alot of big game hunting here and it's not really designed as a combat knife. It has a firesteel that clips upside down into a holder that seems secure but makes me nervous enough to go ahead a 550 loop it to make sure it is there in case i need it. It has a diamond sharpener on the back, a "jetscream" whistle which isnt that loud but is of a pitch that even my Army ears can hear and the blade is a mix on serrated/straight cut. It has a notch cut out in the back for the firestarter, 3 holes for lashing to a spear, flat pommel for hammering (which is where i hear some issue may be) and a decent enough sheath. I will make on of my 550 key fobs to hang from the bottom of the sheath. It has ground -air and an alpine signal chart on the back of the sheath for rescue. The grip is rubberized and feels real nice. I will be testing it and will let you know what works and what doesnt. If anyone already has, post it please.
Oh and Happy Fathers Day!
