  • judging others by their hair, weight, clothing, manners,

how do you judge someone who walks up to your camp in PAW or when the shtf?
    ---
here's a link about a college player arrested for baggy/saggy pants.

here are some comments by an individual who sent this to me.

"Saggy pants on a UNM football player gets him thrown in jail in San Francisco, California.

I thought California was all about helping gay people.

I thought saggy pants was a jail thing to show Bubba that you will be his girlfriend.

If that's the case, isn't an arrest for wearing saggy pants a hate crime against gay people?

Or maybe jail is where Mr. SaggyPants wants to go, and the police just helped him get there"

keep in mind that this is another persons comments, and it was possibly all in jest..
he possibly just relayed someone else's comments...
and keep in mind this is just a question... not my opinion or the opinion of this website!!

    back to the question.
if i walk up to your campsite in PAW in baggy/saggies, what will that say to a your or any group?
i have uncles (to age them, most fought in WW2) who think my hair is too long.
if i show up at a campsite in PAW with hair on my shoulders (i'm male by the way) what will that say?
i have a preacher friend who's real serious about weight and the perception that portrays. he will quickly point out someone's overweight condition.

what characteristics will quickly communicate positive info to a recieving group?
what characteristics will quickly communicate negative info to a recieving group?

i know the individual well who made the above comments about saggy pants.
he's military officer. saggy pants would be a HUGE negative in his case as you can see.

trying to ask a question, but not wanting to offend anyone. i'm for PC!!
btw, i'm overweight and have long hair (according to my uncles)

Right off the bat for me, any prison/gang/skinhead/biker type of tattoos would be very negative. Negative enough to send them away, immediately.

I profile everyday and would be harsher post SHTF. I'm not politically correct and i dont care. I'm responsible for the safety of my family, bottom line. so ole Dads an A....H.... so what. Things like that make the difference in wether or not we came home so get over the touchy feely and deal with it. I'm a short haired middle aged, mean, grumpy, ole fart, don't see me whining bout it, profile away, i'm the guy your gonna call when the stuff gets deep. SHTF you don't make the cut, tough
I just got in my daughters overweight softie friends feelings the other day cause he said i was intimidating. He is gonna join the Marines in 6 mths. I told him "get used to it boy, your ticktu.. self is gonna get them feelings squashed soon enough. Cowboy up and start manning up some or they are gonna eat your lunch and them sandmen are gonna pop you a new one in the middle of your forehead for not keeping your eyes off the ground and watching the zone".

Yeah, Rice Patty - prison tats woud do it for me, big time.

However, I've seen some real barracuda's in high heel and lipstick. Some women will stop at nothing to get what they want. These women will be deadly when the SHTF. So carefully 'profiling' and suspicion is essential.

As far as regular tats, I can't figure out why anyone would permanently mark their bodies. I read that Navy Seals don't mark themselves in case their captured. But since everybody and their brother seem to have them, I'd have to look the other way. However, prison tats or gang related one definitely send a message. People need to read it.

I don't care too much about hair. I prefer short hair, clean shaven males, but that's just my preference and I don't attached any judgment to it.

I guess everyone should be considered suspicious until proven otherwise.

In a Post SHTF world, baggy pants may be the norm. I'm pretty sure there will be a tremendous amount of weight loss.

Like MB, I prefer clean cut looking men. DH wears his hair super short, but if we have no clippers PSHTF - he may have to have a new hair style.

I don't like tats either, particularly on women. PSHTF, I suppose it would depend on what is on the tats.

The people who would really concern me, PSHTF would be the ones who apprear to be a little too well fed, but are begging. THOSE are the ones who would worry me!

I profile all the time, no matter where I am. I first take notice of weight: strong forearms, non-soggy gut (don't care if someone looks a bit overweight, but I don't want to see flab hanging), etc. One can usually tell how fit someone is just by the way they walk. I also look at clothing: if a fire/flood/whatever were to happen right now, how would their outfit hold up? 6-inch heels? tank top and flip-flops? Mannerisms are huge too: I check to see if they are assessing the situation around them. I try to make a game out of it - who would I want on my team?

mmm sorry ya'll but never judge a book by it's cover.. you may miss out on some of the best people for your situation... go more on gut feelings and intuition rather than than looks, tats ,hairstyles, and clothing...

from my own personal experiences... we (me n manthing) are rejected by more people than I could ever name based on all of the above... and oddly enough we are more prepared for post SHTF than most other people will ever hope to be ;)

Ok MustangGal, I gotta ask... What does "DH" stand for? I see it in alot of your posts.... I assume it's your husband?? Just when I think I got all this internet lingo figured out - LOL, SHTF, BOB, OPSEC.... another one pops up - "DH" Designated Hitter??? Maybe it's just to many of my middle-age brain cells dying off... :)

I love that. I'll have to refer to my Devil Woman as MIL from now on. For the record, I really do like my mother in law. In fact I'm trying to get her to move out of her place and move in with us Permanently.

As for the question, I trust NO ONE, period. So once TSHTF shouldn't be much different for me. I like to start at the bottom, because I have nowhere to go but up, that way.

I don't really refer to my MIL as the Devil Woman. (at least not often or where DH can hear it ;0) ) As much as she makes me crazy, I do love her and appreciate the wonderful son she raised.

I could tell some stories, though. She is quite the Drama Queen.

Ah, it all makes sense now. I can relate to the last one - The Devil Woman. I had one of those too. But it all changes after they pass away.... Then you're only allowed to say nice things about them!?!?!

Did you know that if you rearainged the letters in mother-in-law you can spell woman hitler?
No, really, I got along with my MIL for 26 years.....then I met her.
Last year for X-Mas I got her a large jar of gormet honey, because I found out she was allergic to bees.
We almost didn't get her anything cause she didn't use what we got her the year before..... A cemetary plot.
Do you know how many MIL's it takes to change a light bulb? One, she sticks her arm up and lets the world revolve around her.
Not to say my MIL is cheap but she blinded herself just to get a free dog.
The worst two things about her is her face.

OK, I've got that out of my system.

Everyone will be suspect if they walk up to "the camp" in a post SHTF world. I have seen many "clean-cut" persons (men and women) that do bad things...rape, murder, child molestation, robbery, etc. These people can be fat, slim, well educated (or at least appearing so), dumb as a rock, short, tall, young, old, black, white, red and yellow. Many types of people will do bad things when their children are starving. Remember, what will you do to keep your children/family/spouse alive....and you are an upstanding moral/God fearing person? What will the dad that doesn't have the same moral values do to keep his family alive? He will "play the game" to get into your camp/group and then what? Leave with a cup of rice and a gallon of water only to return with 30 other people that will storm the camp and try and take what you have. Don't take me wrong, I do believe in charity, but the person coming to the camp will be well vetted by the group before ANY information or supplies are given. Maybe having a few food caches set up away from the camp would be a good idea to lead the stragglers to?

I have a goatee , very well trimmed , other then that clean cut , I am over weight atm , but most people take to me easily . It is how I carry myself and I think that will tell more then anything after SHTF . If you come up and act shifty and look worthless , then you will probably be treated as such . You can be dirty and not look filthy . I am semi prepared atm , but if times got tough , I would provide for my family in ANYWAY needed . I know I will outlast most when SHTF , but if it goes for years , I will be a part of the Horde . Once it becomes my family vs yours , be careful , I will win hehe . I don't play fair . I hope it never gets to that , because I know it will go against my morals , but my family survival will supersede all that . So if it was needed , when I showed up , it would be clean cut , I would be trim by then hehe . I know how to articulate well ( that's talking ) and how to be trusted . I would talk the right way , because I had lived it for a few years till I ran out of supplies ( I'm learning to be wholly self sufficient , like farming , no practice , but reading on it ) . You would trust me , I have been trustworthy for 42 yrs now , I do emergency work , so I handle pressure and deal with extreme situations . I would accept your charity , but I would be scouting and learning and if I saw the chance I would be back .

I am in no way condoning or hoping it comes to that , but I have and always will be a realist , that is why I come and learn from these sites . I have always been able to step back and look at things un-biased and clearly to see the bigger picture . I like to learn and will ask a person questions to learn their beliefs and what makes them tick . Most people are decent , but EVERYONE has a price , EVERYONE has a limit and when SHTF most everyone will think of themselves first . You can have all the morals and decency in the world , but when your wife and son look at you with the 'eyes' and you know they haven't eaten in days , you will put aside those morals and do what is necessary to take care of them .

So looks will mean nothing , you have to have a moral radar and hope you can see the gleam of 'I want' in their eyes and then act accordingly . But I am a firm believer of looking in the eye , shaking a hand firmly and giving everything you promise . I will reach out and help others , but not at the detriment of my family .
