  • Dept. of Homeland Security - "We are here to protect you...."

Saw one of the DHS command vehicles at a Turkey festival, in a town of about 5500. Got me to thinking do they really think that Al Qaeda was planning an attack? I doubt it. There are several larger cities/metro areas within 10-15 miles. Or was there some other purpose for expending the funds on having DHS in this little town? I would think they would have bigger issues to be addressing other than making sure this little festival doesn't get to rowdy.

Maybe I need to take off my tin hat :) or maybe I need to put an extra one on just in case.

DHS will look for any excuse to justify their existence. 1 drunk getting rowdy will show why even towns need DHS to show up for every sports game and festival.

      could be several things
possibly street or motorcycle gang activity because most monitoring agencies fall under dhs now or maybe there was something that triggered it. soon as they don't show and something bad happens we all kick them for not being there.
and yes i know this isnt a popular view here so go ahead and beat me about the head and shoulders

I was driving down the I-10 in Phoenix this last week and saw a DHS patrol car. It was a Dodge Charger fully marked and lights on the top This was the first time I had seen somthing like this from DHS. I tried to get aup to it to snap a picture with my phone but my 93 cherokee just couldn't keep up.

I have to agree with Matt. There could have been some type of "unadvertised threat". Possibly even one of domestic terrorism.

Actually a lot of the time , the vehicles aren't even for homeland security , but they are for local government agencies . They get some funding options and help from the feds and part of the price is putting DHS on the side . They will have lights , sirens , the whole shebang , but be nothing more then a local idiot using tax payers money uselessly . I know this because a local county has a few big trucks with all the lights and goodies , they respond to fires and all they do is ask the homeowners if they need Red Cross , then call Red Cross , then leave . This is such a waste of money for buying and maintaining a 75k truck at least , when all the incident commander has to do is ask , then make a 30 second phone call . But no they need use every free dollar , to show they need more , God forbid , they actually saved some .

The governent accounting system is such a crock of #$%^&*()_!! Being the pawn I was in the military we ANNUALLY wasted money every September. Because if we had any money left over October 1st, it went back to the government kitty and proved to some idiot we don't need that much and next year our budget would be lowered accordingly.. So EVERYBODY in the government wastes all their remaining money in September, so they do not lose or get cut on next year's budget. Such a waste!!!

They also show up a tea party and other political events to take names and pictures. Believe me I was there, they were there.

Klayton has a good point, all unspent money at the end of the year is returned and next year, you don't get it, even if you need it. I've worked in the govt before, and unfortunately its the same in the non-profit arena where I currently am working.

Sadly, I just don't trust much of anyone or the government, itself anymore.
