The school district i work just laid off people yesterday in my department. At least i survived this round!

My take on sites like that is everyone should look at that and see just how vulnerable we as a society have become when it comes to being self sufficient. It amazes me to read on other prepper sites how during the "good" times everyone was talking a good game but now that the game must be played so many show their true colors and blame business for not hiring, not paying a fair wage, not paying enough taxes, and the list goes on and on.

We have become so specialized in earning an income and rely so much on others for everything else that as soon as something breaks down the whole train runs off the tracks. In other words it seems people can't do or know how to do much of anything for themselves anymore. Getting a degree in the philosophical art of internet butterfly watching no longer pays six figures. It just plain no longer pays and if that is the ONLY thing you know how to do, even if you are the best in the world at it, you're screwed.

This should be a great motivation to learn to work for yourself and make your own income. Instead what you read on many posts on other "prepper" boards is how mean and unfair big business is for not hiring and how evil the "filthy rich" are for not spending enough. Well for people who think that way friggin' go out and start your own business and try to run it with big .gov breathing down your back. Business doesn't owe anyone a job. Business is not there to provide jobs. Business is there to earn a profit period. And when a profit cannot be earned by hiring then no one gets hired. When business is losing money then people get fired.

If someone doesn't like how this works then move to Cuba or Venezuela or to some other socialist crap hole and see how much better it is. This is where people are going to either pull up their bootstraps and grow stronger or wither away whining taking what ever handout they can vote for themselves form the .gov until the faucet completely runs dry.

I know I sound kind of harsh and brutal but too bad. The training wheels have to come off sometime. Go ahead and flame away. But before the flames start I just want you all to know I enjoy and learn from all your posts.

I'm with ya, even though my self suffeciency game has alot of holes in it, i agree with ya

I was self employed for the last 15 yrs and loved it. The good and the bad. I had good years, not so good years and years that plain sucked! There were no limits on how much money I made (or lost) and how few (or many) hours I worked.

I ended up closing my business in Dec 2009 due to the economy. And I have been miserable ever since. And, if I get the chance, I will go into business for myself again. Now I work just as hard to prep as I worked for myself.

And I still resent the heck out of the politicians taking the monies I worked 70-80 hrs a week to make to line their own pockets and give the rest to the entitlement crowd who are too darn lazy and worthless to work, and I always will. If, and when, the SHTF, I sure won't miss them. And by "them", I mean the entitlement crowd and the politicians!
