                            Never give up, the next thing you try may work.
                            This actually originally applied to combat, but works equally as well in any tough situation when the chips are down and the hand has been called.
                            Also, in a similar vein, is part of the Army's "Soldier's Creed" that I try to apply in everyday life as well:
                            I will always place the mission first
                            I will never quit
                            I will never accept defeat
                            I will never leave a fallen comrade.

                              When I learned the Boy Scout motto in 1960 it stuck "Be Prepared"
                              When I heard "Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" IIRC in the 90's, that took a place alongside.
