my wife saw a short story in the news that got her attention. topic was 500 of america's wealthy have renounced their american citizenship and moved... along with their money and assets ... to another nation.
this was a shock to me...
i googled the topic and finally found several links.
if someone is wealthy, they don't want to give away their wealth to taxes or inflation or crazy laws. so the best thing to do is LEAVE.
they renounce their citizenship to get out from under the laws of the US
some of these folks inherited their money.
many of these folks were smart enough or aggressive enough or ambitious enough that they Earned their money the old fashioned way.
bottom line on the earners... is that these are folks a country needs.
if the story is true... and it appears it is...
this may not be a trigger event... but it is sure a Warning event.

It’s interesting the subject of entitlement came up, that’s always been my reasoning behind why this society will collapse.

I mean if you look back on history and even around the world today catastrophic things have happened, and yet societies have held together. The Great Plague of London, hyperinflation in Weimar Germany even that earthquake that happened in Japan recently.

Yet in places like the U.K and USA today it’s safe to say that any one of these things would plunge the country into chaos. I think that’s largely down to the fact that people have this entitlement complex.

In particular (and I’m speaking as an Englishman but I’m sure its the same in the States) I’d say an important tipping point was when we began this welfare regime. If and when the government cut off the money there are going to be a lot of people who can’t or won’t work....what they going to do?

I was talking to a girl about this a few days ago and she said ‘’well they will either have to change or starve’’
My answer was ‘’not without a fight’’

I think some events like food riots, cities on fire, or large scale rioting like multiple city's would be marked as turning points. Those are events that we could turn around or make a come back IMO.

I think it would take a larger scale event like an EMP over North America or dirty bomb, or even the US credit rating/defaulting on our debt to make lasting effects that are felt for decades. Things that would effect the whole nation.

Klayton, I believe we are from the same school of thought on the tipping thing. In college I waited tables and I busted my arse on $20 tabs to $200 tabs...and went far beyond the duties of the average waiter....and always told my coworkers if you suck you will get sucky tips when they complained...well 10 years later...when me and my wife go out, I am the $5 tipper for me her and the lil guy BUT, if someone goes far beyond the average job (we never have to WAIT too long, within reason) then I will throw em $7-8....I have had a waitress say something to me before about giving her $6 on a $50 tab at a "fancy" joint up in Atlanta....first I was like "the nerve this 'female dog' has", so I told her to let me see the cash back and I would make it right...so I put the money back in my pocket and said goodbye....I am a very respectable young man, but damn dont "dis" me like that.....

I have friends that say the same thing that knucklehead in your class said..."well you gotta leave at least 20%".....why I ask? " Well thats the norm"

What cracks me up is that 15% use to be the standard tip for a waitress.... Now they want 18% or 20%. If you ask them why, they will say "Well, we need more cause the cost of living has gone up!!"

So let's think about that for a moment... Has the cost of living gone up? Yup. Does it cost more to eat out? Yup. The wife and I now spend over $50 for a meal that cost us around $35 - $40 just a few years ago. But wait..... Isn't 15% of $50 MORE than 15% of $35?? uhhh, yup.

So isn't the wait staff getting more? Yup. Do I feel guilty about not paying 20% ?? Nope.

That being said, I tip my barber almost 50%, does that count? LOL sorry, waitresses and realtors really tick me off when they expect 20%/6% for their VERY little work based solely on how much I AM willing to spend on a meal/house.

I hope that home owner gets a good lawyer. If anyone needs suing it's the governmental agency responsibly for this outrage. As far as I know, not paying your student loan is a non-violent crime. I'm still wondering the real reason the whole thing came about?
