For opsec it was the only way to do it . No one in their right mind would want this stinking corpse . Anywhere it had been or was going to would be a target for all the idiotic fanatics out there . They would riot and cause major problems anywhere it went . They couldn't bury it anywhere , this could become a shrine to some fanatics . You don't even want to list which ship tossed his carcass over , they might try to blow it up , to show they are still strong and will hurt the people who desecrated his corpse . We don't hear any of the terrorist's denying it , they are in shock also . Once they get their footing back , they will have to make a statement , either verbally or with an attack . This could bring some fringe terrorist to show themselves or it could have some fade into the shadows .

They played it smart to keep it under wraps as long as they did , and would have kept it longer if they could have . I personally would have used it as bait , I would have paraded his *** through the streets in a wagon and let Americans throw stuff at him , then shoot anyone who rioted against it . But we have to act civilized even when they don't . The pakistani's are more crooked then even our politicians and that says a lot . I wonder how much of the 3 billion in aid money we supposedly sent even made it there . I bet half the politicians got their cut , then the paki's get theirs . Then the couple hundred thousand thats left , gets sent over to the al-kada .

We have a seal team, who kills Osama after he wouldnt "surrender" , in a mansion more or less with only 4 other people. All who get shot..but they take Osamas body back to the USS nooneknows , full of service members who this would be a moment akin to 5 101st airborn guys parachuting into berlin and killing hitler while he was on the pot, stealing a ju85 and flying his body back to britian for churchill and rossevelt to poke sticks at over a double shot of 20 yr old scotch.
but we dont have even that yet.
Heck we had sneaked out film of Sadam's last 3 seconds of life before he took the drop......yet not one pic of osama being dumped over board.......

im not one for foil. but some stuff just dont add up...id love to be happy we killed the xxxxxxxx that planned the attacks here...but i dont want to count any eggs as fried chicken yet.

Man this is fishy as all get out. It was only a week or two ago when I heard blurbs about how these terrorist have over a 100 nukes in the US and that they were suppose to use them if we catch this boogie man. If you ask me he has been dead for years and they had him on ice. Then all of a sudden they wheel him out saying they got him. They had to get the attention off the birth certificate some how because that document has more holes than swiss cheese. This whole thing stinks and doesnt make sense.

I'm not one to dismiss everything I hear/read, and also not one to believe everything I hear/read, with any situation, but especially where the govt is involved. There are many things of which we'll probably never know the "real/whole" truth about. This may, be one of those things.

I love a good theory , but if this was pulled the way it is claimed , then the only films they might have are secured . This was done by Team Six , one of the most professional and well trained Units . They wouldn't be pulling out their cell phones and snapping pictures , they would have pictures taken to very the mission , but not sightseeing pictures . I agree the timing is suspicious and a lot of the facts are glossed over , but this is obama and we know showing documents isnt that administrations policy . If this was done like they said , they pulled the mission , pulled the corpse and then got the hell out of dodge before the paki's even knew what was going on . This was the only way to insure success . We know ( at least most do ) that the paki's are crooked as hell and working with al kada or at least turning a blind eye . If has been dead , the terrorist's would come out and make this claim just to add confusion to the fight , I would think .

Some points to ponder

Okay, just some thoughts on the matter...

Killed on 1 May 2011 vs killed years ago:

No matter what, OBL being dead is a propaganda coup for anyone who wanted it. Let's just say for a moment he was killed pre January 2009. Who stands to gain from that? Let's just assume for a minute it happened under Bush 43's Presidency. Wouldn't they have put that out there as a Republican victory in the National Security arena? Especially around election time. That might have helped John McCain at the polls in '08. Maybe not enough to gain a victory, but enough to probably sway a few voters here and there. Benefits the Republicans who can point to a victory and show the anti-terrorism policies worked.

So no matter what, I believe it happened after January 2009. Bush would have put that out there for all to see especially since his poll numbers were in the toilet. Sure, he wasn't up for reelection, but it might have helped him go more gracefully from the White House. Also, had it happened pre-January 2009, Obama would have had no reservations about telling the American people it happened since it would elevate him in his poll numbers and his so called "transparency" government operations. It would have helped his cause to close Gitmo since we didn't need to interrogate Al Qaeda members anymore looking for him. It was another dart to fling at Bush.

Killed vs prisoner

So here goes the stretch. Let's assume for a moment he was captured instead of being shot in the head. That makes the US even a larger target for retribution attacks, hostage situations (you release Osama, we release yours minus the heads), bombings in retaliation, etc. By him being declared dead, there is nothing to bargain with (as if terrorists bargain in the first place) and there is nothing to be traded for. I'm not saying there won't be retaliation attacks, but at the same time, he's dead and that gives them little to go on except martyrdom. That's typically good enough, but at the same time, it leads them nowhere in the long run and chances are, decreases their support base with increased attacks.

But if we declared he was alive and being interrogated at an unknown location? Al Qaeda would stop at nothing to up the ante to get him released. Whatever was at their disposal they would use in order to sway public opinion to their stance of getting him released. Enough bombings and terrorist attacks and I can guarantee you the American people would start thinking hard about giving him up. Nobody would be safe, nobody would know where the next attack came from and nobody would want him held or tried anywhere in their State. Oh sure, plenty of us on here would say differently, but we all know how the media can and will slant the news to their own agenda. And if releasing him would make the attacks stop (so they think), that's what they will report. And in turn, the general American populace starts to think "yeah, we should have killed him when we had the chance." And where would the trial be held? Where would he be held as prisoner? All locations which would become prime terrorist targets both before and during.

So we could report the fact he was dead and it gives Al Qaeda no place to go besides the martyrdom route. There will be retribution attacks, I can guarantee that, but far less than if he was being held prisoner. Without him being alive, they have no chip to bargain for.

So yes, they are going to report he is dead when he very much could be alive right now getting waterboarded at some remote site as far away from civilization as possible.

Intelligence material vs human interrogation

Along the lines of "dead vs prisoner" is the intelligence value of a live target. We've all heard about all the computers, hard drives and other intelligence materials the SEALs brought out. Now in all likelihood we should start seeing raids all over the place targeting terrorist cells. Our allies should probably start stomping mudholes in known Al Qaeda cells operating within their borders. You should be seeing the Special Operations community working overtime taking down the network of Al Qaeda and other known associates. They've had the intelligence for four days now (or eleven if the timeline the news reported was correct). And let's face it, eleven days is plenty of time to start rounding up the usual suspects and passing on intelligence to our allies so they can do the same. I'm rather surprised you haven't seen any more news on cells going down if they've had the intelligence that long.

But a person...takes time to break down. It takes time to effectively interrogate someone to give up information. It takes time to break a person mentally. Eleven days? Four days? People have broken in that amount of time, but others have taken longer. So where are the raids based on intelligence received from the target? Why aren't the SEALs, SF ODAs, CIA Direct Action teams and the other SOF oriented forces going in and sending Achmed to see the 72 virgins? Or bringing him out for further intelligence value. Another indicator he just might be alive as they might not have broken him yet.

So the sheer intelligence value is another reason to bring him out alive, but again, tell the public he's dead. Dead terrorists have no rights. Dead terrorists cannot be bargained for. Dead terrorists are no longer a threat and make people feel better and more "secure." Dead terrorists are an example to point to with the caveat "you're next buddy."

However, live terrorists provide valuable intelligence. Live terrorists eventually give up information that targets other live terrorists. Live terrorists that are kept hidden are not on the thoughts of the American people like a dead one would be.

Raid vs bombing

There are several reasons one would go in on the ground with a raid, but most notably is the snatch and grab. I don't buy the whole line of "we might have missed with a bombing and caused civilian casualties" line fed by the government. Laser and GPS guided munitions rarely miss this day in age. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the likelihood of two-four munitions dropped on a house going astray is far from probable. Plus, the administration has not been reluctant to order strikes within Pakistan as it is. How many Predator and Reaper attacks have gone on since Jan 2009? And this was a reason the president gave?

So one very good reason to go in on the ground with live troops is the snatch and grab. Snatch him up and get him out. Tell the public he's dead and continue on mission. The military and president were worried about Pakistani forces targeting them. It's far easier to toss a couple of bombs from fifteen miles away and blow the snot out of that safe house if all they wanted him to be was dead. Sure, one of the bombs might have gone astray, but that's unlikely knowing the value of the target. The guidance units would have been checked, rechecked, checked again before even being loaded onto an aircraft. Sure you send in teams after it's all said and done to verify he was taken out, but bombing is fairly efficient this day in age.

But to put in a team on the ground to take him out...doesn't really pass the test of common sense. You put a team in on the ground in a high risk environment with a military base less than ten minutes away? You only do that for one reason, to snatch that person while they sleep and get him out ASAP. Otherwise, you use bombs and identify the person afterwards and ask for forgiveness. Just like they did with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

So it is very likely he (Osama) is very much alive and being kept at a secure location right now getting broken and giving up intelligence. I'm not saying this is the case, but there is a decent possibility of this and especially the complete lack of verification on his death. They paraded Uday and Qusay Hussein all over the news after they were dead. Saddam was shown in death. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was shown identified after death. And why hasn't Osama? "To keep the inflammation of the Muslim people down?" Are you serious? The man was supposedly buried at sea with so called Muslim honors. With no recording of same? You show pictures of the funeral rites being performed so the Muslim public cannot be inflamed. You show pictures to the public to show "yes, he is dead and here is the proof."

For certain, we may never know the truth about the matter. Alive or dead, Osama has been removed from the equation and the world's a better place for it.

I've been watching the news regarding Osama's death and frankly I can't help but wonder why the details have to be discussed to death! From the first reports of the raid until just this morning it's been speculations and more speculations. The White House did not have their own facts straight due to an effort to appear knowledgeable and 'in the know'. I don't need photos or videos or anything else. I don't care about the raid details. Osama is dead, period.

I think the Navy Seals are major heros and however they conducted the raid is just fine with me.

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Thats easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
