So if any of you didn't know this is the 150th year of the Gettysbug PA civil war battle. Yesterday we took the bus tour and did the welcome center. Today we are going to walk the streets, well maybe because my son told me last night that he wants to get down and dirty and hit the trails and see every monument that is here. I told him that his Boyscout leader has got things planned out for the day. Then he said When did that ever stop us. We might just have to see if anyone else wants to come with us. I am like him I would rather hike 5miles and see and feel history then walk into a bunch of stores. Tonight they are having a 150 cannon salute and we cannot wait to see that.

Wow what a great day we must walked 10 miles. The boys had a blast asked a ton of questions took a ton of pictures. They were very goodand acted like gentleman to everyone they talked to. Today they kicked off the 150 yr anniversary with cannons blazing. Tomarrow we are going to do some more walking and looking at monuments. I wish the weekend was longer.

I recently took my class to a local Civil War Battlefield on a field trip. They behaved marvelously as I reinforced in them, prior to the trip, why the men who fought there deserve dignity and our respect... even if the majority of them were dead white guys (I teach in a Title I predominantly black school). They got it... and reading posts like this gives me hope for our nation's future, which is what I am to optimistic on right now...
