  • Just don't get it

I started to reply in another thread and realized we were getting off topic , which I am guilty of alot hehe . So I will just post it here .
I just had an experience tonight , I took a semi-night off and had a few drinks ( I dont drink much ) and dinner with the wife , sister in-law and a family friend , well I have a CCW permit and I carry ( not if having even one beer though ) . We are at dinner and my buddy drive's my truck home and when we get home I reach under his seat ( the drivers ) and unlock the safe and grab my Kimber Ultra Carry out and head on in . His eyes were big as doo-doo . I head in , my son is immediately trying to play ( 2.5 years old ) , so I think nothing about tossing my .45 and holster on top of the entertainment center and rolling on the floor to play with my son . My friend and sister in-law were in shock . My wife was like whats the issue , Lil Mike cant get up there and when I am done it goes into the bedside safe once I leave the room .
My son all ready knows not to point any kind of weapon , even in play , at any one . and doesn't even think twice or show any interest when I open the safe and secure my weapons . He knows that is dad's private time and he respects it . I was about to blast into them and toss them for even acting funny and my wife intervened and made it all nice lol . I can't stand a person who enters my castle and wants to act like I'm weird or insane because I have a few beliefs when you walk through my doors . I have a few simple home rules . OK not a few and Im sure I missed some , lol ..
    1. This is America , in my house we speak American and are proud of our country , even if we don't like some things going on .
    2. No freebies , you don't work , you don't have money to play .
    3. Drama , keep it out of my house , I don't care about he said , she said !!
    4. You will take your hat off in my house .
    5. You will stand when the National Anthem is playing , even if its on the radio .
    6. I have many weapons and we all practice safety with them .
    7. I'm not always right , but its my house and you know where the door is and you better use it when I tell you to .
    8. My son and my dogs will do what their told , he is blah yrs old and he is just dog isnt an excuse . People enjoy my son and dogs because of this . Im not mean , just show respect and even a 2 yr old knows how to do it .
    9. You will not disrespect my family , friends , nation in my house , we can have debates , but disrespect gets hards feelings and broken noses .
    10. I could go on and on and on , but you get the picture . Do what you want at your house , but in mine we will be decent and treat each other the way your supposed to . I'm sorry to rant , but this just bugs me , when I am looked at funny for correcting my sister in-law ( who I despise ) just about everytime she comes over . It is never her or her children's fault , someone is always to blame .
    Rant off !!

    Preach on brother. LOL

I agree with most of the 10. I'm a very hospitable person and have gladly opened my home and land to like minded folks in the past. It has not always worked out the best due to the "save the drama for your momma" issue you mentioned above.

We don't fret about daily headlines, don't "freak out" about statistics, etc, but as many have said we "live the life." I think we that's an over statement cause we live pretty posh compared to others "living the life" but nevertheless. To be honest both my wife and I get sick of hearing the "sky is falling" call that's so regular (and has been). However people look at how we live and think "they MUST think TS is going to HTF tomorrow" (because of the way we live). No. Not at all. We live like this cause we like having money, being debt free, eating clean food with a known origin, having freedom of movement, etc. We home school, are self employed (X2.5), raise a lot of our own food and in general just LIKE living this way! Do we prep? Of course, but we try to do it not out of "fear" but out of common sense.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Sounds like a good set of rules to me. I had to deal with my wifes family today good thing for my smart phone and a set of ear phones.

Sounds like a reasonable set of rules.
I totally agree with 1Admin, the wife and and I are both 'retired' young, live within our means, do what we want and are prepared. The image a lot of people have of a prepper is a bearded, cammo wearing person hunkered down in a bunker. I to get tired of all the doom & gloom. I believe that you can do both live a reasonable lifestyle and be prepared.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

          Well said one and all.

What I hate the most, is when somehow prep comes up in a conversation with associates (I have few friends, basically because I define friends different than most), anyway, I hate when they say I can't afford to prep right now. Then I see them getting into their oversize gas guzzling SUV for the wife husband and one child. Or I see them going out to eat on an almost daily basis, one neighbor goes out to eat every meal except breakfast geesh (can you say first to die off in a SHTF scenario).

Anyways, I concur, my castle-my rules.

I know what you mean. Folks seem to take offense if you don't make the same choices for your family as they do for their family. We've been homeschooling & living beneath our means for 13 years now. Our kids are 16 & 18 now & the oldest graduates next month. Both are in college part time, have decent jobs, know what they want to be when they grow up, & are respectful, well mannered & enjoyable people to be around. The choices we make as parents & as preppers are ones we will bear little fruit in the short term but a bounty in the long term. I always looked forward to the day I could point at my kids and say "see, they turned out to be Christian, hard working, good & decent people & citizens". That day has come & I couldn't care less what folks think! lol
