  • BOL-Water-Breakdowns

So the other day another coworker begins a worried discussion of events and we begin discussing preparations. He and I have a long conversation and he is eager to learn. He tells me that he has an acre and a trailor house near a lake where he would go if it went bad. It's not stocked and very little garden area etc and we discuss this as well as the fact that it's one of those lakehouse areas for the summer where others will try and run to as well. We have alot of work to get him up to speed.
The one thing I brought up that had never occured to him was the lake. It is a damed lake that I am familar with. He stated he is 1/4 mile away and could haul water easy with no issues whatsoever. I asked him how far the water would be away from the lake when the dam fails. He is stumped.
I tell him there is a creek that runs under the lake that was what was damned up to begin with and thats where the water will be then, he needs a map of the area. The area is very steep and hilly and the water wont be near as easy and would be almost 1 mile away then and won't produce enough to support all them mobile lake homes. It would be an all uphill haul of several hundred feet climb.

The point of this posting is to think of what will be destroyed after SHTF and how it could effect you and the BOL/BIL.
Will the dam break destroying your location downstream or leaving you high and dry, Will the Nuke Plant melt down, Will the area flood as pumps stop, Will the expansion joints give making the bridge impassible, Will the house slide off the edge of the embankment when the rains come and no one sheers up the cliff, Will the power poles fall on the house as they age? These are questions to ask as intrastructure fails due to lack of attendance or lack of funding.

    Good points.

And some things will work for you and some things might work against you in this regard.

The roads in our area are all dirt. After a really good rain they get bad and some areas wash out. One of our county road guys live in this area, so we always seem to be one of the first to get worked on.

In the PAW I expect that road to be completly FUBAR in no time at all. It won't take me tearing it up with the dozer, rain and use will ruin it in no time. I doubt too many people will have more than a half tank and maybe a couple gallons in a lawn mower, gas can, etc. when something happens, but still, it will definitely curtail traffic.

A fellow that is in the well drilling business told me that, after the Pacific earthquake, he is starting to get more request for bored wells. He said that some of the request comes from people in the country that already have drilled wells.
